Crooks

This company steals. They lead you on to collect app fees. Mary told us we had no problem although our credit score was 20 points below what the landlord supposedly demanded. They charge $45 per person who will reside there. Maryland law caps it at $25 unless they can prove the process costs that much. They’ve yet to provide this information. My wife has worked in property management for 40 years and got complete checks for $13 and it was one fee, not per person. These people are crooked. Stay far away from them.

Horrible management, do yourself a favor and avoid giving these people your money for rent every month. Look elsewhere. These folks are EXREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL, CONSTANT MAINTENANCE ISSUES, etc. So frustrating given the amount paid every month.

Awful management. Wish I could give 0 stars. I had a terrible experience with Alison Kreitz from PMC. She was extremely rude, impatient, disrespectful and very unintelligent. After paying my $1000 security deposit for an apartment at 9 N. 9th Street (which is supposed to prevent the lessor from leasing an item to someone else while the lessee verifies and arranges the finances), she told me I had a week to send my proof of employment (I was a student at the time, and so was waiting for my loan counselor to authorize that I could pay for it). However, My loan counselor was on vacation. When I contacted Allison about this through phone, she said she would consider this and get back to me. Meanwhile, she deposited my check anyways. She contacted me exactly 1 week later through e-mail (without any warning at all) saying that I have given up my right to the apartment and that it is back on the market and I will not get my security deposit back. I complained and brought up the fact that she said she would give me extra time which she now denied (wish I had recorded the call as I… See More>

I scheduled an appointment to view this property, doing so meant I had to take off of work. No one showed. I tried to call but no one would answer the phone. When I did get in touch with someone at another property owned by the same company she told me she would call me back and tell me what happened. She didn't call me back...however when I called her back she told me Kalen said she was there and couldn't go back. I walked around this TINY property for a good 30 min making sure I wasn't missing anyone or anything. There is no leasing office so there is no meeting place. I can't imagine if they have such a hard time showing their property that it's a great place to live. Not a good sign! Talk about terrible management.

The maintenance is the worst I've ever seen. I have never seen so much incompetence in my life. I have been waiting for two months for a new dishwasher and whenever I request an update, my emails go unanswered or I get a vague response. The repairman, Mike is nice and so is the doorman but Marion is the worst. The apartments have old appliances, it takes forever to do laundry and the water and electric bill are very, very high. I am no planning on living here next year and I would advise anyone looking to move here, to keep moving. You do not want to deal with the headache that is the management.

I just started renting here this year. I should have checked the reviews before I signed the lease. Waiting for my lease to end and then I'm out. Pros: lots of space, close to subway, the doormen are the best - very friendly and responsible. Cons: incompetent management, very slow maintenance, thin walls (you can hear your neighbors conversation), cheap and poor construction (the corners of the walls aren't even at 90 degree angle, seriously, you wonder if they passed standards), cheap appliances (dryer does not dry your clothes - it takes two cycles of 100 minutes before you can dry clothes, when we first moved in and thought this was broken, maintenance enlightened us and said this was just a cheap dryer, nothing is broken; same goes for dishwasher - I don't ever use it, plates come out with soap still on it), electric bill (4x the usual) and water bill (5x the usual) is super expensive (electric bill probably because of poor insulation, water bill because you pay sewage and storm water bill as well). SO even if you thought you got a good deal for the price you were expecting to pay, chances are, when you… See More>

Great apartments. Have lived for 4 years while in medical school. I do not know what others are talking about 'management being horrible'. I pay my bills on time, and have never had an issue. Building is quiet and apartments are gigantic. The rent raises each year are the worst thing about this place. I can no longer afford living here after 4 years of being a tenant. Maintenance are awesome and incredibly timely. Would recommend to young professional or those who are young familys.

Terrible management. Can not say enough bad things about the managers. They are incompetent at best. Anyone with a first grade education could run these apartments better. Maintenence is awesome but live in fear of horrible managers.

Overall, I enjoyed my year-long stay at these apartments. The security people and the maintenance crew were always very friendly and responded to requests in a timely manner. The BIGGEST pain was dealing with the management, who were incompetent at best. Jennifer and Kianna have, on multiple occasions, failed to do their jobs. How is it possible that handing rent checks and documents to them DIRECTLY actually caused us problems rather than mailing them?! They have mishandled these checks and documents causing the tenants to pay for extra fees because it was "NEVER" their fault. If you ever have to deal with them, please record conversations and take pictures of EVERYTHING. I have no idea how they still have their jobs... Now I know why people rated these apartments lower. It isn't the actual building itself that is the problem. It is the PEOPLE who have been entrusted to run it.

Good space with high ceilings, but the rest of my experience has been awful. The Lead Manager is one of the rudest and defensive women I've met. She really is a terrible person. The elevators are constantly broken; at this point one has been broken for 2 weeks. For a while I've had to walk down 6 floors of steps because the elevator has been broken or suffed with 8 ppl (illegally packed!!!) The hallways smell like trash and there are homeless who use the bushes as an outhouse (the management blames the dogs in the building and as a fyi has threatened to ban all dogs). The apt walls are insanely thin and I hear everything my next door neighbors say. As other reviewers have mentioned, the cable (Hotwire communications) is horrible and the Internet quality is also very bad. This was a a big disappointment. I have been hit with a 100 dollar/month renewal--unbelievable. From the horrible management, which the building talks about in the illegally-packed working elevator, to the paper thin walls which allows me to monitor my neighbors romantic life, I regret my decision to move here.… See More>

I'm a 30yo professional who has lived in the warehouse for 2 years. I love the wood floors and high ceilings in my apartment. Maintenance has also been fast. However, the rest of my experience here has been subpar. The complex suffers from rude and completely unfriendly management. It seems that each month we face a new threatening letter addressed to the community and any interaction with management is super negative (you're treated like a nuisance). Rent increases every year by $100.00/month and if anything the building looks more unkept each month--there are holes in the hallway walls that were there 2 years ago, the elevators often break,, the hallways haven't been vacuumed since before I moved in, etc. The wooden floors in my apt are connected to my neighbor's floor and thus I hear every movement he makes. Everything is cheaply done--cheap appliances, peeling cabinet faces, uninsulated windows, terrible stove, etc. Finally, the building owner is related to someone high up at the ONLY cable available to the building. Thus you'll be stuck subscribing to a crappy Dish network spinoff company. In summary, this could have been a great apartment but was ruined… See More>

I am usually not a person who would take the time to post my opinion online. My experience however has been downright horrible (an understatement) with the management that I feel inclined to do this so that no one else would suffer the same fate. My problem with this building is really mainly with the management. The apartment is spacious and beautiful. Kitchen appliances are not the greatest quality and the walls are super thin (perfect for spying/eavesdropping). During my two years in this building, things are ok as long as I am able to stay away from the management or if things don't break down. They got new people about a year ago to work in the office- no difference from the ones prior. It's like you have to go through "how to be a pain" school in order to work in the office. My advice is this- go ahead and rent this place if you can put up with these serious flaws, just try not to get a mini stroke each time u try to deal with the management.

                          so far, so good

Husband and wife, NOT previously city dwellers, NOT students (aged 50s). Pleasantly pleased with the unit, building, location, and staff. Prompt response to a clogged drain, friendly door men/women. Jennifer and Jeanine have been personable, professional, and responsive. Our unit is very quiet (top floor), great to have unit laundry, be allowed pets, have a trash room instead of accumulating a week's worth in the unit. The unit is very light, with just one (large) window and morning sun. The only oddities are a dishwasher that doesn't open all the way because the kitchen is too narrow and a missing floorboard (?) under the carpet, which initially was unsettling. The apt was very clean upon move in. Food smells do permeate the hallways, but they don't cross our apt threshold.

an often loud, smelly, dormitory living experience

i lived in this complex for 1 year. there were many students who had loud weekend parties and the halls had frequent "herbal" smells. once the front office found out i was not renewing my lease the apartment was shown constantly during the week and on saturdays with sometimes no notice at all. after giving the front office a requested schedule of when they could enter the apartment, they couldn't even follow that schedule and continued to enter the apartment outside of my preferred (liberal) times. it was very inconvenient and twice agents walked in on me in bed (as i work nights). we scheduled our move out day a month in advance and then on the day of our move, was told we could only use the freight elevator until a time not previously agreed on. then, after cleaning the entire apartment per our lease agreement, we were still charged $80 cleaning fee - in spite of all the required cleaning being done. in our security deposit return (minus the $80) there wasn't even a breakdown of what this $80 was taken to pay for - that took another 2 calls to the leasing office that resulted in frustration.… See More>

I have lived at this facility for 5 yrs. I am relocating to another city for a job, otherwise i would have lived here longer before purchasing a home. There are pros and cons to every place in Center City Philadelphia. For the price you pay, it is a great value considering you will enjoy all that Philadelphia has to offer. I like to participate in the nightlife in Philly and i must say this is a great location as every restaurant or lounge worth going to is within a $7 cab ride. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable. The maintenance team has been prompt with every one of my requests over the years. The management staff is attentive and considerate. Liela and her team always have their door open for me should i have any comments, questions, or concerns. The doormen are all very friendly. Lester is the best in the city.. Don't be fooled by the space!

Yes, the apartment is very spacious. Yes, for the space, it's relatively affordable for these modern "luxury" apartments. But you have to watch out for a few things. I lived there for one year. The two worst this about the place: 1) Liela Rushton (property manager) and 2) Safety. First about Leila. She is the ----- incarnate. Completely unhelpful. In fact, she revels in saying how you can't do this or you can't do that. Moreover, she's rude, confrontational, and for the lack of a better word, a -----. If they replaced her, I might actually recommend the place if it weren't for the safety issue. I did not feel comfortable walking outside at night. There were always people hanging around that looked like they were up to no good. There were also a fair number of prostitutes, crackheads, and homeless people around at all hours of the day, even during daytime! So you don't think I'm just out to get the apartment, I do believe it is very spacious, the fixtures are pretty nice, and the maintenance man Mike is awesome. Besides that, go… See More>

In sum, the Warehouse building is nice. Nice exterior/lobby. HUGE rooms/bathrooms, and ample space; if you are willing to shell out ~$165/month for parking, a parking space. However, if you are considering this apt building, please read this review carefully. For the amount that you pay, I'm not sure it's worth it. Pros: - Big living quarters - Doormen are very friendly - Gym Cons: - Unsafe neighborhood: The outskirts of Chinatown and the Gallery have progressively become worse with more homeless people, street walkers / wanderers. Remember the flash mob in Feb-2010 at the Gallery that resulted in several arrests? We live right next door to it. (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage/20100217_Cops_n I DO NOT feel safe going to work during the early (before 7 am) or late hours (after 7pm), esp walking through either 9th St. or Filbert St. It does not help that the lights around the apt parking lot are not lit at night time. - The management is difficult to deal with. Although this place looks nice from the outside, the lobby, and the hallways,...don't be deceived. I hate living here. I've only lived here 6 months and wish I had picked another place to live. It is so loud. Like another reviewer on here posted, it is SO LOUD here. If you get an apartment in the hardwood floor portion of the building, the footsteps sound like someone stomping on the ceiling and even next door. Not to mention the garbage truck that comes at 4am every other day below my windows and wakes me up. Almost every appliance had to be replaced when I moved in. When the person next door runs their garbage disposal, water gurgles up into my sink. I have old windows, not new ones like the newer part of the builing. They are SUPER drafty. I put weather proofing on it myself and made other modifications so that I didn't feel the breeze across the room...still do. I still feel it and asked them to have maintenance look at them. They did and the summary left in my apartment that said "weatherproofing already on… See More>

The management staff is friendly and they took care of my broken dishwasher the same day I told them I had a problem with it. There are no bugs and I haven't heard any noise from my neighbors. I have lived in the building since it opened in 2005. Although the building is nice, the area has gotten progressively worse. I am not a timid person, neither is my boyfriend, but when you feel like you're going to get mugged, attacked by a bum or someone from the gallery...oh, yes, and when you're repeatedly walking into a cloud of weed smoke just outside your apartment, it's time to move. My friends could not believe how terrible the area was when they can to visit me from NY. Pros: - apartments are a good size - construction of the building is good and it's a great-looking building - appliances are new - windows are sturdy and provide great insulation - parking at builing (althought the price shoots up every year) - nice gym in the building CONS: - NOISE...it's so, so bad in so many ways. When I first moved here, the apartment above me had hardwood floors. You can here EVERY footstep of the people living above you. It's not soft footsteps, either. Since I take the train to work everyday the convenience of being a block away is awesome. The front desk staff seems always nice and polite although it would be nice if they helped more when you are having trouble getting through the doors with a cart or something but the guy always says hi to me and is really nice and if I have an issue they always seem to do their best to resolve it the best they can when the management staff is not there. Laundry is expensive at 1.75 a machine and I will be looking into getting a washer dryer unit. It would be nice if they took those smart cards though instead of the old coin-op style. Security wise the is a front desk guard but thats about it. Everything else is up to the tenant. Keep your doors locked deadbolt locked etc. Haven't heard any major issues though. My ceilings are very high, high windows, white walls.. new kitchen. For the price - it s a great find. I can't believe people are complaining about the view.. You live in a city!! Of course there isn t a great view.. my window looks out on another building.. but it doesn t bother me. If I wanted a nice view.. id go live in the country. I looked at a few available apartments in the building. They were the best I've seen in Philly, for the price range I wanted ($1200-$1300). Most of them are a nice size, and have grayish carpeting. Love noise? Live HERE!

Ah, yes, the pleasant sound of the garbage and recycling trucks right outside of your apartment throughout the morning, beginning promptly at at 5AM, six days a week like clockwork (clearly heard evern from the 5th floor)...we almost can't sleep late on Sunday mornings because the wonderful, incessant pounding and chimes of the back-up lights are missing. In case you haven't notice, the previous statements are meant to be sarcastic. I would like to also mention that 9 North 9th Street is conveniently situated DIRECTLY over the delivery truck entrance to The Gallery (that mall is a nightmare in itself and is another story). So, if you live on the north side of the building, even from a high floor, you will hear every truck that travels in and out of that tunnel, and you will hear every thud that those awful garbage trucks make while moving the dumpsters THROUGHOUT the early, early morning. My boyfriend and I live together in this building and we're in our mid-twenties. We like to go out on the weekends and have a good time, and so do the other residents in this builing. However, unlike us, these other tenants… See More>

                                                It Seemend Good, until...

I lived there for a year and things went well at first. However, during the winter my apartment began seriously leaking. The management basically ingored us for a week, while our apartment became unlivable. Finally, it was "repaired." However, during the next rainstorm, it leaked again. A few months later, it leaked a third time. This was after being treated very poorly by the management, both in the building and the higher-ups at Philly Management. In addition, it felt like a dormatory- the noise almost every night made it very hard to get to sleep and stay asleep. About the only things good with the building are the gym, the doormen, and the nice (albiet superficial) look.

The apartment complex seems great when you first check it out...doorman, exercise room, close to the gallery and other shopping. But the NOISE LEVEL is ridiculous. Most nights I feel like I am in a college dorm because people living in the center apartments are awake until all hours of the night talking and yelling and hanging out with their doors and windows wide open. Closing the windows in our apartment does nothing to minimize the noise level either. So unless you're ready to go feel like you're back in college, live somewhere else.

The doormen also sometimes give visitors a hard time when they are coming into the building. This apt complex is not like others in that you cannot buzz in visitors, they must sign in with the desk. Some of the doormen insist that the tenants come down and be present when their visitors sign in which is a huge pain.
