Resident 2004 - 2008

8/12/2008

Where to start..... Well I will start with the rent amount, it started > at a decent price of $1150/mo. one of the first things that the > manager (I will get to that later) told me was that "rent hasn't gone > up here in years", well every year that we lived there the rent went > up a minimum of $50 & a max of $100 per month. I can understand costs > going up but not every single time you renew a contract. I ended up at > $1380/ month ($80 of it being a pet fee.) > > Let move on to the parking spots, how hard would it be for them to paint the unit numbers onto the corresponding parking spots. I don't know how many times I came home & had to try to figure out who had company parked in my spots. A lot of times they didn't have company but it was the neighbor themselves that was parked there. If the neighbors choose not to answer the door than you will be stuck in "overflow" parking, which isn't a huge big deal until the weekend comes & everyone has company that takes up all the "overflow" parking. Another thing to keep in mind is some neighbors may have roommates so there maybe be 3 or 4 cars attached to one unit. If they are not going to paint the numbers on the spots than why tell people they have assigned parking? > > The playground is covered in tics & bugs it is never taken care of, half the equipment is broken or is wood that would leave splinters in your children. Went to the pool one day & it was just covered in a white mucusy looking film, that was the day we signed up for the Y (which is just down Pothouse Road). Lets move inside the house. > > If you are looking to live here make sure you look at night. Why you ask, well you won't be able to see much. There is very little lighting in the house. There are no lights in the bedrooms, main level living room, or downstairs rec room, this is something you may not notice during daylight hours. Look very closely at the corner walls of the unit, you will probably notice that the plaster is falling off most of them, when you ask there will be promises to have it fixed & it probably won't get done. The walls are as thin as paper if your neighbor has their TV or a radio up loud or they like to argue (which can make for an interesting time if you are nosy or just curious) you are bound to hear it. There are washer & dryer hook ups which are nice, but there is no dryer vent leading outside the units which means you have to buy an indoor vent. The only one we found you filled it with water & had to change it out every 2 - 3 loads. If you don't change it there will be dryer lint & dust everywhere. While changing the water out isn't hard it is a bit of an inconvenience. > > > If you plan on running the central air unit make sure you keep it set at around 78 - 80 degrees. I set mine at 72 & didn't have a bill that was less than $300/mo during the summer. PECO does offer budget planning, which might prove to be useful. Fall & winter were more reasonable you don't really need the heat until late Nov., but it was still in the $200 range. > > Look at your back deck, if you have one of the wood ones expect splinters or wear shoes. Look at the managers back deck it is about 3 times the size of all the other decks on the property, & why can she have her DTV dish on the roof & no one else can? If you have one of the newer white ones those are nicer, but still half the size of the managers. Yes I understand that being a manager has some perks but what is good for one should be good for all especially when it comes to the satellite dish. > Expect the rules to change. When I first moved in you could use a charcoal grill, my specific question was "can I use my charcoal grill"? The answer was "yes, we want you to live your life & be at home". 6 months later "you can't use the charcoal grill, if we catch you using it you will be fined." Please don't tell me gas grills are safer cause that is garbage, propane is far more explosive than charcoals, and those wood decks aren't going to catch fire if a coal drops. That is just one example another one is kids (they aren't kid friendly anyway) playing in the driveway near their house. First kids could ride bikes, skateboards & what not & have fun (remember they can't go to the park see above) then one person had to wait an extra 2 seconds for a kid or two to clear out so they could drive through & the whole thing changed. If there was a so called near miss than why not lower the speed limit in the complex from 20 to 15 or 10mph? That would give the driver more time to react along with a child. The complex isn't that big that you need to do 20mph anyway. > > If you have kids & they make any kind of noise outside (which most do) expect at least one neighbor to complain, even if the kids are in their own yard, front or back. If a neighbor complains expect a letter from management telling you to control your kid. > > The first secretary that was there was one of the nicest beings on the planet earth, very friendly, very kind & courteous. She got fired for no real apparent reason, now maybe there was but when we talked to her it sounded bogus. Her son-in-law was a maintenance man got hurt then got fired cause he got hurt using a piece of equipment they wouldn't train him how to use, but expected him to use it anyway. The secretary that is there now is a little on the rude side, especially when calling in with a maintenance problem. If you are calling to inquire about the place she will probably be little nicer, after all her job is to get you in there. > > The best thing about this place is the maintenance crew, if you do call in they are usually there the next day at the latest, sometimes that same day. When they do the job for the most part you don't have to call them back to have it re-fixed, every now & again you will but not often. However keep the number on hand you will need it. It may be the dishwasher, the oven, the A/C unit, the lights that are in the unit, what ever it may be it will need fixed eventually. > > Well that is about all I can think of for now. Oh yeah don't knock on the managers door (even in an emergency) especially after hours cause her husband will just yell at you. Also don't expect to be able to talk to her during the day at the office either, she will either be out or busy. Don't leave messages at the office after hours ( or during) they will just say that they didn't get them, well if they didn't get the messages I left on the office phone than who was I calling, Charlie Brown? > > The neighbors aren't very friendly either, for the most part. That may just be a personality thing, but from what I saw if you are a "People person" you won't find to many people to talk to there. > > I guess I am saying please don't rent site unseen & check out several different places prior to signing the contract, & if you do sign good luck.
