Pretty chill apartment thats close to many universities and nightlife while still being accessible for those who like to stay at home. Prices can be a bit high but still a good place with a lot of space

I am currently living at Webster Hall and it has been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and all covid regulations are followed. It is also very close to CMU and Pitt. The apartment is very nice, as is the rest of the building!

The management, location, and maintenance of Webster Hall are excellent. The building is quiet and clean with fantastic views, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My experience with Webster Hall has been overwhelmingly positive.

You may watch this link, its a tour of Webster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtY55up5giA Great hall! The room layouts are bigger than other on campus housings and the utilities function well. The views of the rooms facing Mellon Institute of Research are amazing. The main con is that it is a little further away from campus and has offices on the ground floor, that does not give it a very schoolish or collegy feel. But other than that its great. Its about 10 - 15 minutes away from the Student Center but very close to Craig St. and Bus Stops enhancing convenience for food and grocery.

I have a very nice apartment (if a bit overpriced), but the real cause of the 5 star rating is the building management. They're fantastic--possibly the best landlord I've ever had. They respond quickly to inquiries and even faster to problems. The maintenance staff usually has problems addressed within 24 hours, and they're very helpful and easy to work with. The management is also committed to keeping the place nice. Since I moved in they've upgraded the toilets, improved my shower water pressure, replaced the old "high/low/off" A/C control with a more sophisticated thermostat, and even upgraded a random light fixture (I have no idea why, but my living room certainly looks classier than it did before). A few notes about the building: -It's one of the few buildings in the neighborhood with on-site management during business hours (and they'll accept packages for you, a huge perk). -It's an older building, so problems occur slightly more often than with a new building (though they're very good about addressing them quickly). -There's at least one washer and dryer on every floor (very convenient). -It's expensive, but you get considerable value (I wouldn't consider it worth it if I were just getting… See More>

              Don't live here.

The carpet was really old and dirty, and my allergies went up threefold. The kitchen was unmaintained, and our dishwasher never worked, despite multiple calls. The storage in the basement was unreliable since it flooded over the summer and residents who were home for the summer were not informed. Even though there was a window in each room, it really felt dull inside. Overall the staff was friendly, but in times of need they were really unhelpful. A few times while leaving the building in the morning, I got locked in the parking garage, and I called the help line, and the office, and there wasn't a single person on duty. The lady who answered me kept saying she had no idea, and that I should call back the next day.

                Awesome Place to Live!

I really miss this place. I lived in this apartment for 2 years in my undergraduate life in CMU and I really REALLY liked it. I moved out because I graduated. I have not found any place like this ever since I left Webster. The building is extremely well maintained, the staff are all nice and courteous, the place is quiet, the security guard is friendly... They also deliver your packages to your room and it's always nice to see a package in the room when you come back home. There's also a gym which is open 24/7. It's always nice to go for a run when you're stuck with your work. All in all, I really liked this place and if I were to stay in Pittsburgh I would definitely go back to Webster Hall.

                  Nice place to live

I moved into this building in August of 2007. I wanted this building because it was conveniently located across the street from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Science building where I would be attending. I must admit that I love my apartment. The management and maintenence staff are amazing. However, I wish that I had been told that Carnegie Mellon rents out a bunch of apartments to their undergrads. I have had to complain three times about noise levels after midnight. Which, finally, have been resolved. The staff is quick to solve your problems. My only other complaints are that it is down the street from Fraternity row, and there is a lot of shouting on the streets late at night, which can be heard in the apartments, and that if you live on the 5th Avenue side of the building, you can hear what bus is outside your window, since the announcement is quite loud. Otherwise, this is a great place to live!

                    I Miss This Place

I lived here for four years that is my entire undergraduate life at Carnegie Mellon. Yes, freshman to senior year. The staff are extremely friendly and polite especially the ladies in the management office. The entire apartment is well maintained and still looks new although it maybe as old as 10 years. The ground floor is rented by a credit union, a deli, a hair/nail saloon and many, many small medical research labs. All these only at the ground. There's an adjacent parking lot but it's pretty expensive at $90/month when I last checked 2 years ago. There's a dishwasher and a refrigerator in the kitchen but they are pretty old and I think it's high time for the management to replace them with news ones (maybe sleek, metallic GE ones). The kitchen cabinets are old and worn out too. The floors are carpeted which makes cleaning difficult. Hardwood would be preferred. The toilet floors are not concrete and any water spills on the floor will leak down to the bathroom a floor below. Laundry room on every floor although the dryers tak Perhaps the biggest plus in staying here is the location. It is situated along 5th avenue, a major road in… See More>

                      Decent But Expensive

My two friends and I have lived here for two years and it is a great location for Pitt students. Management is friendly and helpful. Smoke alarms produce the most obnoxious sound in the world...so much so I ripped it out of the ceiling just to make it stop (no, there's no button). Walls? What walls? You can hear everything. Overall it's a decent place to live, but pretty damn expensive for what you get.

                        Nice

As a college student who has lived in a number of apartments I think that Webster Hall is great. Of course it has its ups and downs, but it's mostly good.

It's very safe - there is a night security guard and the external doors are locked after 10 pm and on weekends. There is air conditioning, lots of closet space and nice sized rooms. The kitchen (At least mine) has a dish washer and I have a great view. The location cant be beat. In addition, there are laundry facilities, recycle bins and trash shoots on every floor.

Cons- the walls are very thin and partying neighbors can keep you up, but it's not too bad. Visitor parking stinks - but that is mostly Pittsburgh's fault. My boyfriend got a parking ticket on a Sat. while we (And all of the other students) were moving in. He was parked in a no-parking space w/ his flashers on because the loading thing was full. Also, the bathroom does not have a fan so if you take hot showers it steams up quickly.

This is my little summary. Nice & safe.

depressing interior, gestapo management, but good location and alright prices

students who fill apartments form the 9th floor down frequently hold parties that can be heard through the floors.
management will immediately call the police if you park in their loading zone, and has been known to pursue personal vendettas against occupants with whom they have had rows. the building manager in particular is a total nightmare. the night manager on the other hand is actually a very nice and helfpul man.

                            Well-maintained apartments, friendly staff, expensive.

This apartment is expensive, no question. If you live here you pay for the location, but it's certainly very convenient to both CMU and Pitt and a number of buslines. The 5th Avenue noises can be quite loud, but I'm on the 9th floor so generally it's not too bad. The maintenance staff is terrific, and always come up within an hour of being called and fix even the most minor problem. They've also helped me hang pictures etc. which is not really their job. The cleaning staff keeps the lobby extremely clean and overall living here is very pleasant.

I have never had much problem with noisy college students, but I suppose it could depend on the floor. There are quite a few CMU undergrads on my floor but they have for the most part been pleasant neighbors. The laundry is just down the hall. For a few years they tended to break quite often but last year they completely replaced all the washers and dryers and there have been no problems since then. The apartments are all carpeted and the kitchens are decent but not deluxe (electric… See More>

                              Horrible...honestly.

I lived at Webster Hall for 6 years. I loved the convenience of it initially, but it went way down hill in 2002.

When I first moved it, the building was comprised of professional students & elderly folk; my neighbors were friendly and polite, but then Webster Hall began renting out floors of the building to CMU students and the management staff repeatedly turned over.

My apartment door was repeatedly banged on in the middle of the night by drunk students. Damage was done to the exterior of my apartment, and the hallways smelled of pot & alcohol. It was a rotten situation to be stuck in.

Sadly even after I reported the harassment and damage, Webster Hall management did absolutely nothing; they told me the dorm students weren't their responsibility.

The situation was finally addressed when I contacted CMU's campus police, but Webster Hall management was pitiful. They wouldn't let me out of my lease early. You'd think with all the $$$ they charge for rent, you'd at least feel safe in your own apartment.

I couldn't wait to move out and will never recommend anyone else live there, which is such a shame since I lived there… See More>
