Resident 2004 - 2007

2/26/2007

I'm really glad that my fiance and I are moving out of this place. It was fine for us to start living together here, but that is it. If you want to get out on your own for the first time, or are in some kind of a bind and need somewhere to live - that's fine. If you are looking for something long-term, look elsewhere.

We spent 3 full years here. When we toured the place, we were told about a fitness center being built. What a JOKE! They have yet to break ground with that!! For the first year we paid $610/mo for a 1-BR which was fine. The 2nd year we paid $640/mo and this 3rd year we've been paying $674/mo. We sent in our 90-day notice, but if we hadn't, we'd have to pay $705/mo for the 4th year. The rent just keeps going up, up, up -- and what more do we get for it? Nothing!

Do not pay for the pool pass!!! I suggest you just jump the fence and swim at night. Honestly, $40, $45, $50 or whatever the cost is - it's not worth it! The pool is only open 12noon-8pm and closed every Monday. The pool is ONLY open IF the lifeguard decides to show up. There is a nice lifeguard in her 40s, but there is also some teen-ager lifeguard who has her boyfriend and all of her friends at the pool. She turns her back to everyone to socialize, including children who should have an extra set of eyes on them in a pool, even though their parents are there. She leaves early and closes the pool whenever she wants. I heard her talking about leaving early to go to the beach. How nice.

There is ample parking, but it is not lit the best. Be careful of parking too close to the grass, one fellow had his car nicked up by the weed-wacker. The maintenance guy used a weed-wacker to trim a little bit of grass and it kicked up a bunch of rocks which nicked up the cars. Do you think Highland Manor paid for the damage? No. And shovel your wheels out when it snows or you will be plowed in, never to get out. Be careful in the snow too, you will fly right onto rt 724 because of the slight hill, no salt or snow removal there.

Nice neighbors generally. For sometime on the bottom floor I'd smell marijuana, though. Funny thing was, a cop lived on the floor. Oh well.

Forget about the laundry rooms. They are disgustingly dirty and the machines usually don't work. If they do, the person who used the machine before you will let their laundry sit for an extra hour and never bother to watch the clock and some get it on time. I suggest Bizzy Bubbles Laundromat in Stowe. It's got wireless internet, nice restroom, nice machines that work, nice owners, and stores/places to eat nearby.

As far as the office staff, Linda is knowledgable and friendly, whereas Donna is not-so-much. You used to be able to pay your rent at the office up untiul the 7th of each month. But now you have to send in the payment to a PO Box in Blue Bell by the same date. Meaning you need to write your check a few days early to ensure it gets there on time. But this "main office" in Blue Bell does not have any phone number or real address. So if you have a problem, I'd speak w/ Linda. One time I had to call when no one was in the office and an answering service picked up, luckily. I called because the lifeguard never showed up to open the pool. It was rediculous!! There wasn't any rain, thunder, or lightning either. They could only take a message for me, and I was livid. I repeat DO NOT BUY THE POOL PASS!!!

The heat sucks! Plan on buying space heaters. And do like some of us do, plug them into the hallway outlet outside of your door so that Highland Manor can pay for the electric to run it. Heat is supposed to be included, so they should pay for it one way or another.

If you move in here, so a THOROUGH walk-thru and make note of anything that isn't satisfactory. If you are like us, you may get an apt. that was cleaned & painted a little too quickly. It literally looks like the paint was slapped up on the wall. Not to mention the leaks and cracks in the ceiling and walls.

We did have a brand new A/C unit but the coolness did not reach the bedroom. You cannot put an a/c unit in the bedroom window because the windows slide left to right. Someone does have it done though, you need to stick a big piece of wood to board up the rest of the window. How ------.

Oh yeah, "no pet" policy, my foot! Just about everyone has a cat and I have seen and heard several dogs.

Good luck in your apt. searching!!
