4 Tips for Flea Market Decorating

Staff Writer · Jun 22, 2011

Flea market decorating can be fun as long as you exercise control when you visit a flea market. Pieces of furniture and accessories bought at the flea market can be used to decorate your home attractively. The idea is to pick up useful items for your home at a bargain price.

Know What You Want

Flea markets are crowded and it’s easy to get carried away and buy things you don’t need. It’s important to decide on the items you wish to buy before you leave home so that you look for the same at the flea market. At the very least, make a firm decision on how much money you’ll be willing to spend, and don’t cross that boundary.

Decide Whether the Item Fits in With Your Home Décor

A decorative accessory might look beautiful but may not be right for your home décor. In this case, although it may come at a bargain price, unless you plan to renovate your home or have spare space to store the item, it’s best not to buy it. If the item you have chosen is right for your home décor and you can visualize where and how you will use it, it’s best to buy it.

Avoid Regrets

Be sure not to carry too much money with you (and you might consider leaving your credit card at home) so that you don’t indulge in rash spending. It’s a good idea to visit all the stalls before you buy anything. This can prevent you from buying something that you might later decide was not an imperative buy. If you pick up an item without walking around the entire market you may realize that you don’t have enough money left over for something that would have really been useful.

You can buy beautiful centerpieces, furniture and frames at a flea market without having to spend too much on these items.
