5 Cigarette Odor Removal Tips

Cigarette odor removal can be tough. But, smoke smells, and no one wants to have a stinky apartment, stinky car or stinky clothes. So, here are some tips to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell.

1. Cigarette Odor Removal from Your Clothes

If you are a non-smoker, or even a smoker that doesn’t smoke in your apartment, there is nothing worse than cigarette smoke smelliness on your clothes! Prime example: You go out to a bar for the night with friends, and come home wreaking of cigarette smoke. Get that smell out of your clothes by adding about 1/2 cup of baking soda to your laundry detergent during the wash cycle. Baking soda absorbs odors, even on clothes. It will also help to get your clothes cleaner.

2. Cigarette Odor Removal from Your Hands

If you are a smoker, you may not notice it, but your hands smell. So, before you step back into your office or a meeting from a cigarette break, make sure your hands don’t smell. The best solution is to rub a raw lemon on your hands, but who carries around raw lemons? Instead, carry around anti-bacterial hand wipes. You can even purchase these in a lemon scent if you like. These are the same wipes they give you at seafood restaurants to remove the fishy smell from your hands after you eat. They are perfectly portable, and will eliminate the smoke smell from your hands.

3. Cigarette Odor Removal from Your Carpet

Baking soda has so many uses. In addition to using it for cigarette odor removal from your clothes, you can also use it to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell on your carpet. Sprinkle the baking soda on your carpet, and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then just vacuum it away. If you run out of baking soda, baby powder works great too.

4. Cigarette Odor Removal from the Air in Your Apartment

Perhaps you just had a party and people were smoking, or perhaps you are a smoker, but are having non-smoking guests over. The first step is to simply open the windows. Let the air circulate. The next step to remove the smoke smell from the air in your apartment is to put out small bowls of vinegar. Place a small bowl filled with the vinegar in each room. They will absorb the smell in the air. You can also purchase an air purifier. These range in price from very affordable (about $20) to very expensive, usually based upon the size of the area they are intended for. If you are using an air purifier there is really nothing to it. Turn it on, and let it do its thing. It shouldn’t make much more noise than a fan.

5. Cigarette Odor Removal from Your Car

Baking soda is the solution here too. Sprinkle a little bit on your seats (if they are cloth), and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes, then vacuum it up. If you have leather seats, just make sure you clean them. Also, remove and clean your ashtray, and leave your car windows open for a bit to air it out.
