6 Modern Living Room Decoration Ideas for Apartments

There are many  living room decoration ideas, but there are fewer options if you have a limited budget. You can give your living room a face-lift with a modern room design that’s affordable. Here’s how:

1. Solid Color Vases

Put large color vases on your end tables or coffee table to give your living room a modern look. Bright colors work great and can compliment your furniture nicely. Put bright colored, fresh flowers in your vase. If that’s too expensive or if you can’t pick your own, fake flowers will do the trick. Try to buy silk flowers (fake flowers), because even though they cost a little more, they look more real than synthetic flowers.

2. Add Mirrors

One easy living room decoration idea is to add mirrors. You can look at living room pictures in home magazines to see the various types of mirrors to buy. Your best bet is to go to yard sales and estate sales. Once you find one or two, put them on the wall facing the couch or on the mantle. If you can, paint the wood or other encasement on the mirror to match the living room decor.

3. Artwork

One general home decoration idea that you can use in your living room is artwork on the walls. The more abstract the artwork, the more modern your living room will look. With that being said, you still want your living room to look like it’s a part of a home and not an art museum. Choose paintings that compliment the theme of your entire home, while still giving it a modern touch.

4. Mix and Match

Contrary to how you may have been taught, you don’t want to match everything in your living room. A simple living room decoration idea is to play with colors. Try putting yellow pillows with a green couch. Put a purple vase on a metallic end table. You don’t want to make your living room look wild, but having different vibrant colors is what helps to make a modern living room decor. If you worry too much about matching your curtains with your couch, and matching those with the paint on the wall, you’ll end up with a living room that looks too bland.

5. Great Library

A fun way to modernize your living room is to put your library in it and continually add great books to your collection. Find a solid, wooden bookshelf and make it a focal point in the living room. You don’t have to stock it with brand new books to make it look modern. In fact, books that look like they’re actually being read will look much better. It will spark your guests’ curiosity and your books can serve as material for great conversation.

6. Textured Area Rugs

Don’t forget about your floors when you’re thinking about living room decoration ideas. Whether you have hardwood floors or carpets, you can use a textured area rug to make your living room decor stand out. A rug that’s soft to the touch and furry looking is a good choice. Pick a color that compliments your couch or artwork.

After you’ve decided which of these ideas to implement, find living room pictures in magazines to help you visualize a finished look. Keep notes on additional living room decoration ideas as you go along, and have fun putting your new living room together.
