Canalside overall was a great place to live. The apartment itself was great and a awesome location close to the vista. I really enjoyed the creative layouts of the apartments and the maintenance staff was always very nice and on top of trying to get problems fixed. I understand they're now beginning construction on the rest of the property which will be nice when finished. The only issue I ever had was my heat was broken during the winter and constantly ran on emergency heat running up my electric bill. Despite this, I will say this place is horribly over priced for a city like Columbia, SC. I guess the advantage was it kept most USC students out of the property. Occasionally we had issues with bugs but nothing more then you would expect. The biggest fault of the property comes with the staff. The office has recently had a complete turnover. The previous staff was great. I never had a problem getting in touch with them or responding to any issues I had. Currently, none of the old staff still works there and they have no idea what they are doing. During the transition, I was assessed late fees and had to provide a receipt(ALWAYS REQUEST ONE) for my rent and show my check was cashed before rent was due. Getting the deposit back has been nothing but an issue. The maintenance man told us the apartment was left is great condition when he inspected and yet we were assessed different fees aside from just carpet cleaning. The lease expired over two months ago now and I've yet to receive a check despite checking with them numerous times. When discussing this with the property Manager(if the office assistant or assistant Manager would let you speak to them) I was given a quick attitude and cut off in a very unprofessional way. I loved living at Canalside, its a shame such unprofessional staff have taken over such a great property and ruined one of the only nice apartment complexes which are not for students in Columbia.
