Resident · 2013 - 2015
I lived at the canalside for exactly two years spanning from 2013 through 2015. My main reason for living there was wanting to live next to the canalside park. I wasn't quite ready to commit to living in Columbia, and the Canalside was a short-term thing for me. Positives: 1. Living next to the park was very nice. 2. The maintennance staff was very fast about fixing problems that I encountered. 3. The pools were very nice. Negatives: 1. If you are a bit older than college students (I am now 32), this isn't really the place for you. When I was a prospective renter, the guy showing me the apartments explicity told me that there were no students living there. Imagine how surprised I was when I met all of my neighbors and was surrounded by college students. 2. While living by the park is nice, it sort of loses its luster after a while. 3. The rent price is way too high. I bought a house, and my mortgage payment is not much more expensive than tne rent price. 4. Your neighbors are not very friendly. This may be common for apartments in general, but people would often not speak to me after I said hello to them. So if you are going into this thinking that you may meet some cool people, do not get your hopes up. 5. I am not the only person because I am not the only person, but the whole canalside experience just gets old after you have been there for a certain period. It makes you appreciate living in more of a residential area.
