Resident ā€¢ 2012 - 2015

3/26/2015

I recently moved out of Mountain Creek Apartments after living there for 2.5 years. My reason for moving was that I got a job several hours away, but I probably would have moved had I stayed in the Chattanooga area. Mountain Creek is in a great location. I was attending UTC most of the time I lived there, so the proximity to downtown was a huge selling point for me, but you can get more bang for your buck other places if you go toward Ooltewah. I wouldn't say I had a bad experience at Mountain Creek, but there were definitely a few issues during my time there. Roaches were an issue for about a year after I moved in. I purchased several roach hotels, roach spray, and kept toilet paper on hand in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom for quick removal when I found one. Pest control also came a few times to spray. It was gross, but ultimately not that big of a deal. Lots of places have this issue. Living on the lower floor of a building, I had an issue with a leaky bathroom ceiling multiple times. In fact, they had to come in and completely strip and re-do the bathroom ceiling twice while I lived there. Each time, it seemed to have something to do with a hole in the caulking of the tub above me. When the tenants above me moved out, there was an opportunity to take advantage of the situation and remedy the problem rather than continue to patch it, but nothing was done. The ceiling leaked at least twice more prior to my moving out. In general, maintenance did typically come within one business day if not within 3-6 hours when I had an issue, but when water drips on your head while using the bathroom, waiting more than an hour or two is kind of a long time. The last thing was probably the most bothersome which was that there was a mouse in my apartment. I know mice were an issue elsewhere in Chattanooga at the time, but it was still disturbing. Especially given that I found the mouse in my bed. IN MY BED. It didn't stay in my bed long as I let out a scream that would have warranted a neighbor calling the police, but it was in my bed. It was late at night when I found it. I called the on-call maintenance person who told me nothing could be done right then. Although I know that is true, let me reiterate that there was a mouse in my bed. It fled to my closet, so I closed that door, closed off my bedroom door and put a blanket in front of it in an attempt to keep it contained, and slept on the couch. I, obviously, purchased a few mouse traps the following day. Three days later, one of the maintenance workers brought by a few mouse traps. I did catch the mouse later that week in one of the traps I had laid. I did also have to call the on-site courtesy officer once because a neighbor was blaring music around 1:30 in the morning and another time had to call the police for a domestic dispute. Like the roaches, those issues can happen anywhere. A lot of improvements were made to the community while I was there. A dog park and a grill and patio area by the pool are the two big ones. The office staff was helpful most of the time. I will say that the apartments switched management companies a few months prior to moving out, and there seemed to be some difficulties with the change. The office staff became less responsive and more difficult to get a hold of without physically going to the office. This may be something that improves with time; I don't know. It is important to note that as a young female living by myself, I never once felt unsafe living there, which is the most important factor to me when looking for a place to live. I can say with certainty that if I ever move back to Chattanooga, I won't move back to Mountain Creek, but I also don't think living at Mountain Creek was a bad decision. That has a lot to do with the fact that if I moved back convenience to downtown would not be as important. If convenience isn't a factor and money is, I would say this is a good place to live. You aren't going to find anything much cheaper this close to downtown. If you are interested in finding something up to date with new appliances and an updated look, you would be better looking elsewhere.
