Resident 2016 - 2018

9/11/2018

Overall, I would give The Cove about 3 stars. When I first moved in, I loved it. It was a beautiful complex and I felt safe. Over time, that definitely changed. The Cove still looks nice and is kept well, however safety is a serious issue. Many food delivery drivers have been held up at gunpoint, at least 2 crimes were committed within the complex while I lived there, the gates were usually broken (once due to a drunk driver ramming through them), I always ran up to my apartment and immediately locked the doors, people from the complex next door (which I believe is Section 8) would always jump the fence and wander around the Cove, and many people would stay outside late at night and be extremely loud. As a single female, I didn't feel safe staying there alone. Most of the office staff is nice and helpful (especially Kat and Jenna). However, the property manager (Jessica) is not professional and very rude. Along with my experience, I've heard of several others from previous residents that had the same experience with her. This is not an angry review where I'm wanting to rant, this is simply the truth and something that you should be aware of. I moved out and received a hefty bill in the mail for all of the charges they nickel and dimed me for. Some of them I completely understood and expected. However, others were ridiculous and I wanted to discuss with Jessica about having them removed. She went on to have an extremely rude tone with me on the phone, tell me that "if you had been a little nicer I may have been willing to work with you," and "If you don't want to pay I'll be happy to send you to collections." I was not yelling at her nor was I being rude, and I was more than willing to pay appropriate charges, I was simply trying to discuss the uncalled for charges but did defend myself when she got catty with me. Another note, I was not at my apartment much as I didn't feel safe but when I was there, I always cleaned and it was always spotless. Jessica made sure to put me down for "the condition my apartment was left in" and made sure I felt as though I was not a cleanly person, which I am. I also never made noise, never had a complaint, and never once paid late and then she went on to say in a rude tone, "Ohh everyone always thinks they're the perfect resident." Here are a few more highlights of our conversation: When I stated that she never reviewed the lease with me that was sent to my co-signers that lived in another state- "It's not my fault you didn't read it. That was your job." When I stated that I've worked in the apartment industry and I know the protocols and the way charges work- "That may have been how they did it from wherever you came from, but that's not how we do it here." When I asked calmly if she could remove some of the charges that were uncalled for- "I may have been willing to work with you if you were a little nicer." When I asked if a $100 charge to prime a wall could be removed because my couch rubbed against the wall and the mark would come off with a wet rag- "Well, you didn't do it so we're charging you." *Apartments are professionally cleaned when you move out. I vacuumed and wiped all of the counters and cabinets down. I shouldn't have had to professionally clean it myself when I left it clean condition already. There are many more unprofessional and rude comments as well. If I were calling her names or yelling at her, I would still expect her to be professional and just say "I won't be talked to this way. I'm going to hang up and would be happy to speak with you once you've calmed down." However, I was not rude to her and she just fueled the fire instead of handling it like a professional manager. I finally was able to get Jessica to work with me a little bit and remove 2 charges. She then told me that the following Monday she would send me an email with my final ledger and directions for a payment plan. She never sent it. I had to reach out to The Cove 3 TIMES before getting a response so that I could pay my balance. Even then, she had someone else give me the information because she wouldn't be a professional and responsible manager. I'm sure she was just waiting to send me to collections even though I was actively trying to pay. Long story short, it's not safe and management is unprofessional.
