Resident 2014 - 2015

12/2/2015

I have rented in various states and areas for five years and have never had a worse experience than living here. Ultimately what ruined my time at the woodlands was dealing with the incredibly deceitful and unprofessional management. I had moved into a 3 bedroom unit with two other females who I knew to a degree but not well; within the first two months one of the roommates began breaking into my bedroom, causing damage, and destroying the apartment and personal possessions. I came to management for help and to move units/find someone to sublease, and they did absolutely nothing, claiming they had no control over the situation because they weren't the "true" owners of my unit and did not want to inconvenience the landlord whom they refused to share information with about. Things got so bad I pursued a restraining order against my roommate and moved out six months prior to my lease ending - the woodlands did not care about my safety or the property, rather how much money they could make off of the situation (rent, damages, etc). They even charged me for $100 "legal fees" despite a lack of involvement from them altogether. Their leasing agent tried to save face near the end of my lease and offered me a credit for moving out early - it took them 3.5 months and a ton of effort on my part to finally get them to process a $68 check (that was originally promised to be roughly $140) when my lease specifically stated that refunds would be processed by their office within 60 days. Regardless of my problems in particular there were others: the pool was like green on occasion, they never closed the gates at night for extra safety (resulting in several break-ins of cars which they claimed no responsibility for), and they would frequently leaf blow/mow/do general construction at 6AM most mornings making it impossible to sleep. A cop was stationed at the club house all weekend waiting to pull residents over and apparently help the safety issues, but they would typically just look for drunk drivers coming home and watch Netflix in their car. Dog curbing rules were not enforced and feces were everywhere in the grassy recreational areas to the point you couldn't walk on the grass. They would close the pools to the entire apartment complex as a "lesson" and leave passive aggressive notes when ONE person broke the rules (i.e bringing glass bottles and/or dogs to the pool). Tanning bed and club house facilities were never cleaned or maintained and well over half the gym equipment is broken and unusable. The only positive thing I can say is that the janitorial/grounds maintenance were always very friendly and nice; the only people that seemed to be able do their jobs at this apartment complex. I know (hopefully) most people won't have the same experience with having a psychotic roommate, but the other problems with this complex that I've mentioned certainly apply to and should concern everyone. For the price of this place considering the distance from campus, you will not be getting the customer service nor the facilities you should be entitled to. I sincerely hope no one ever has to deal with the situation I was in, and receive the same kind of treatment and lack of support/assistance from the management. If you're already one of the poor souls that's signed a lease (there's no way to get out of it once you sign, btw) you can always play a fun game - take a drink every day their leasing agent (Elisabeth) wears the same pair of sweatpants and teal t-shirt. Just don't plan on driving anywhere or being able to attend class the next day! If you are considering living in this place, please head my warning and learn from my experience, and don't do it.
