Resident 2003

5/5/2004

I was highly impressed with Gateway. When I moved in, the apartment was as clean as a repeatedly rented dwelling could be. Everything was well scrubbed-the bathroom, the fridge, the oven-everything. The baseboards were painted with the right kind of paint (not just the same paint as the walls.) It was well insulated and had double pane windows. (My worst electric bill was about $80 for a 2BR around the time that MTSU actually closed due to snow.)
The apartment management was very friendly and helpful. When I first moved in, I was only getting about 4 minutes of hot water for my shower. I put in a maintenance request and they fixed it that same day. Later, when an unusually belligerent storm came through, a huge hailstone broke one of my windows. Again, they replaced the window that very day, despite numerous such complaints keeping them busy. They didn't give me any hassle while moving in or out. They even gave me a list of addresses and numbers to help me get my utilities turned on. They were up front about everything (no unexpected fees)and gave me a copy of the lease agreement. I paid water and electricity, and they handled trash and pest control.
There were only a few insignificant annoyances. 1) I hated the ugly poop-brown carpet that must have been there since the eighties. 2) The economical price attracts some low class residents. My neighbors upstairs frequently held small parties on the weekends. The noise was bearable, but they'd throw their trash down around my patio, which the groundskeeper always had to clean up. Also, many residents walked to the Furrs down the street and would just park their carts out on the apartment lawn when they got back. 3) There are a lot of kids, and when they play in the breezeways the sound echoes so that it sounds as if they're in the living room. 4) Though the closets and bedrooms were a good size, the bathroom was tiny. 5) The outside lacked landscaping. 6) Unfortunately, they kept a portion of my deposit for cleaning fees, even though I thoroughly cleaned upon exiting. (This was not a surprise, as they informed me of this when I signed the lease. I just can't leave a messy impression behind.)
Overall, it was a bargain. I'd rather live there than this craphole (Hermitage Park) anyday.
