Resident 2011 - 2013

5/27/2013

I came to Gateway after being attracted by the positive reviews from this site and moved into a studio apartment. - Noise level is generally quiet, with the usual disruptions from police and fire trucks in the night. It's to be expected, considering that Gateway is near the intersection between Rutherford and Lascassas Pike, the two streets where there are a lot of apartment complexes near MTSU. To top it off, the fire station is less than a mile down the road and so is Raider's Ridge, where a lot of students live (and get into trouble). Unless you have incredibly social neighbors (mine downstairs had aspirations of being a drummer in a rock band, and subsequently had a lot of gatherings), the noise level is negligible. - Parking is variable according to which building location you live in. Some of the buildings have parking on either side of the building, so there's room. The problem comes with the buildings that have only parking on one side. If you're unlucky, you'll have to park your car further away from your apartment than you might want to be. This is especially annoying if you're living in a studio where there are usually 1-2 cars per apartment, but some of your neighbors seem to have 4. No one likes having to park near the dumpster. Management is also accommodating toward disabilities in parking, since I've seen them put up special signs for disabled residents to park in a specific spot. - Grounds is really average to nice. They maintain their grounds very nicely, and even go to lengths to designate places where the dogs could go. Pet owners also have to pick up after their dogs, and Gateway supplies free baggies in little stations on the grounds. There's also a small playground for residents' kids, and a pool that's open during the summer. - Safety is what attracted me to this place. There's at least one officer in residence at Gateway, since I always see his cop car parked near the apartments. I have to work seriously early mornings, but I've yet to feel unsafe. - Lighting is variable. Each of the buildings have at least one main light on the side of the buildings, and every hallway is well lit. Also, each apartment also gets an additional light outside their door. Unfortunately, they're not really vigilant about the lighting, so if one or two goes out, they wouldn't notice. Generally, residents can report it in and they try their best to replace it within the day. - Maintenance is pretty good here at this apartment. If I have a problem, they usually fix it within 2-3 days. Sometimes, they'll be really good and come within the day. I've had no major problems with pests. Well, except for having made the mistake of moving during the summer of the cicadas. That was an experience in and of itself. - The apartment itself is pretty cool for a studio. The room's big enough for me to fit a couch, a bookshelf, a wardrobe, an entertainment center, an L-shaped desk, and a twin bed in it. With some creative organization, I generally have room to walk, jump, and even cartwheel if I wanted to. I can't say what the 1-, 2-, and 3-bedrooms have, but with studios, I have a big walk-in closet, a small bathroom (the door can reach the toilet, make that however you want), and a pretty roomy kitchen for a single person. Air-conditioning/heat system is sort of old; it's not automatic, so you have the choice between heat and air in order to get the room temp you want, which is sort of annoying and kind of costly in terms of electricity. For studios, we don't get the washing/drying machines that the other apartments get, but there is an on-site laundry facility that's cheaper than going to the laundromat down the road. The management doesn't provide change, however, so you generally have to walk to the car wash next door to get change. My dream is to now move to a 1-bedroom ( $100) just so I can get that washer/dryer... - Your neighbors may vary your experience. Studio apartments tend to have high rollover, so your neighbors could really range from quiet to extremely loud. The good part about it? They never last long.
