Contrary to all the other reviews on this site, I actually enjoyed living at 900 West. I thought the apartments were nice (really liked the stained concrete floors) and had a great location near campus, and I felt like I was getting a good deal for the amount of money I was paying for rent. I never had any problems with Craig Coffee, the landlord. Once when my swiper card had stopped working, he came to my apartment himself and gave me a new one that same day. I was never "nickel and dimed" and never received any mysterious fines like other reviewers have mentioned...half of my security deposit was returned which is more than I was expecting. My only maintenance issue (when the dishwasher stopped working) was dealt with within 48 hours.
I do agree that it's pretty annoying that no one ever answers the phone at the management office. EVER. I've never talked to an actual person when calling that number. But my phone calls have always been returned. The parking garage is awful...I drive a truck and it was pretty much impossible to maneuver in that garage...the dent in the side of my truck can attest to that. Also, no visitor parking is lame. I think noise in west campus is a given...you're living with college students. I don't think the walls were too thin, I just think my neighbors were noisy college students. I bet any apartment complex in west campus has the same problem.
My biggest issue is that the quality of the apartment complex really deteriorated in the three years I lived there. Hallways were never cleaned or painted. Someone threw up in the hallway outside my apartment in 2007, and the evidence was still there when I moved out in 2009. Pigeons pooped all over the hallway too, and that was never dealt with. It got disgusting. Also, all the lights in the stairwell closest to San Gabriel were out the entire 2008-2009 year, the light bulbs were never replaced.
