I visited this apartment in March, while I was looking for an apartment to prelease for August. At the time, they told me that I was getting a "special" deal-- $60 off the "normal" price--for preleasing early. When I came back in July, while I was in the office, someone came in and asked about the rate for a 1 bedroom, and they were told that it was $115 less than my "special" rate!!! I guess with preleasing you get worse rates (I used to think the opposite), but a whole $115 worse per month--that sounds like too much to me, so be careful! Also, be careful when they tell you that you have an "open window" for moving in; they told me that I can give them a 10 day range for moving in and that I can move in during any one of those 10 days. But they didn't tell me that I'd be charged for rent from the 1st day of the window! If I knew I'd be charged, I would've set the window to start later! I was charged about $290 for that window, I found out when I just moved in.

Also, I have a small-bugs problem, even though I keep things really clean. Maybe the cat food contributes--but I didn't have a bug problem at my previous apartment with my cats. Also, I walked into the laundry room a few months ago, and saw a pile of mice-killing stuff that Oak Ridge was giving for free, so I guess others are having a bigger rodent problem. Maybe I have my cats to thank for scaring the mice away.

One good thing about this apartment is that it's very close to the first stop for the UT shuttle, and they're one of the few apartments that allow 3 cats. And Far West in general feels like a safe neighborhood, compared to those near UT or Riverside. (I used the Austin Police Department website to find out which zip codes were safe or not.) I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend because of the small bugs & possible rodents, but I might recommend it to you if you're certain that you're getting the best deal in the neighborhood, and if you've asked them to tell you EXACTLY what you'll have to pay (especially regarding the 10-day window). In March, this place seemed like a good price, compared to the other apartments in the neighborhood--it was more expensive than the few shabby apartments (but worth it cuz shabbiness sucks) but less expensive than some other apartments that looked nice like this on the inside of the apartment. I'm more mad about the 10-day window payment I had to make than the preleasing rate I got.
