I don't really know who writes these reviews I have seen for Austin Trails, but I wonder why I've had so many problems with this place if it is so great. One of the good points for me when we moved in was a security gate. With Austin Trails, however, the gate hardly works, and there are people who come in all the time who don't know the gate code, they simply wait to tail someone who does know the code, or come in the exit gate when someone has left. The apartments have very thin walls and you can hear people's conversations as they walk in the hallways. We have what seems to be a family with 5-8 children living above us, in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Not only that, the parking is a mess (we are hardly ever able to park near our apartment because if you get home after 8 p.m. the lot is full in front of the apartments). That, I don't understand, because Austin Trails has now leasing signs up at the entrance of the complex and because of this I know not every apartment is full in the complex. With us maintenence has been hit or miss. We have had some occasions where the maintenence came quickly and other instances where they didn't come at all. Also, the windows in these apartments don't seal well at all. I've noticed surface mold starting to grow in the top windows of our apartment because they don't seal well and moisture gets in when it rains to which maintenence informed me to use a bleach/water solution myself. Another thing is that the aparment staff or the apartment company themselves have changed the lock to the fitness center and not bothered to let anyone know about the change until you go one day and your key doesn't fit. Let's also not forget about the water bills, our water bill has been steadily going up since we moved in. Last month we paid a $65 water bill for a 2 bd/2 bth, with just me and my husband living in it. The complex says they divide the water bill up and take out some for community items such as pool and the office, etc and then divvy up the rest of the bill among the rest of the tenants and take into consideration how many people and the size of the unit or something to that effect. I just can't understand how the water bill is that high, and still rising since my electricity bill was only $40 or so this past month. I don't completely hate these apartments, but it seems as though they have deteriorated over the past couple years. The apartments are roomy and the rent is cheaper than some of the apartments around here. Although looking back now I can't help but think about the old saying, "You get what you pay for." We could have afforded more rent, but when we moved in here in 2006, Austin Trails had an ApartmentRatings.com rating of 99%. One last thing, in my tenancy at Austin Trails, the office staff seems helpful at first but when you have been living here a while and have a problem or maintenence request it is as though they don't care. I don't understand that either because I have always paid my rent on time, in fact it has always been early. I limit my contact with the management and am counting the days until I can move out of this place. So, why have I been here 2 years? I wouldn't have signed another lease last year, but I forgot you have to give 60-day notice, and when Austin trails sent me a reminder of the lease renewal the 60-day notice period was up, my fault yes, but it still is a pain to have to be here another year.
