I've lived in many apartments, and Barton's Lodge isn't a horrible place to live.

The pros:
Pretty apartments, big windows, lots of storage, good layout for roommates, etc.

Near a lot of restaurants and right next door to a starbucks and a grocery store

Plenty of parking, could be better lit, but it's generally safe there

Good views of the greenbelt

Cons:

Probably the biggest negative is how much they raise the rent once you renew the lease. We didn't need to renew since we were moving out anyway after we graduated from college, so it didn't affect us, but I can't imagine how you could go from less than 800 a month to over 1000 a month in rent. That's insane.

Qualifying is a pain in the --- and takes forever to do.

Not really pet-friendly...crazy pet rent every month and only allows one pet per apartment, even if you are in a 2 bedroom apt! Regardless, plenty of the residents just have outdoor cats that roam the complex and are in constant danger of being run over due to the high traffic on Lamar and the nearby freeway, which worries a pet lover like me.

High utility bills...I don't know what this is due to, but our electric bill was bordering 200 dollars a month! I compared it to my most recent apartment and realized how much we were getting screwed on the utility bill.

But overall, I have lived in some pretty bad places, and this isn't one of them. I suppose it just depends on what's important to you.
