Resident 2003 - 2004

3/8/2004

6/27/04:
This is an addendum to my previous review which I wrote in March 2004. I'm re-evaluating my ratings.

I just got back what was left in my security deposit. The management pricks took most of it even though I cleaned everything they said I didn't. I plan on trying to get some $$$ back though by fighting it. I know I'm not the only one who got ripped-off and I won't be the last either.

*** I highly recommend that people who rent at Rio Nueces to have management check the apartment BEFORE you move out so you won't have the surprise of losing most of your security deposit ***

---

I lived here from Aug 2003 to the present (Mar 2004) and am a graduate student. There are LOTS of undergrads living here and practically no grad students.

Pros:
- Furnished apt (furniture is basic)
- Convenient (VERY close to campus and the stores on the Guadalupe)
- Ample parking (they will tow friends who park here)
- Cost -> only $650/month for a furnished apt
- Maintenance is prompt

Cons:
- Sometimes it's noisy. You may get loud neighbors, I've been lucky so far. Walls are thin. The cops don't come if you call them!
- High electric bill in hot weather
- Ants in the apt. After I bought ant-traps, the problem disappeared
- Older apartment

A girl was raped here in the laundry room (1st floor) and I'm not sure how safe it is here compared with other apt complexes. I'm not aware of any police or security put into place since that occurred. The doors were removed from all the laundry rooms though. I feel safe here.

Haven't used the pool yet. Doesn't look that nice but have seen some people swimming there.

1-bedroom apt is small but perfect for one person (400 sq feet). I think itýs ok.

Summary:
If you're looking for a basic 1-bedroom apt that is furnished and very close to campus then I would recommend living here. If you want something nicer, then go somewhere else! I'm thinking of renewing my lease since I will be graduating in May 2005 and will only need to live here for one more year.
