Resident 2014

10/21/2014

I moved in mid-June after a bunch of mix ups and I'm happy to say that this is the best apartment I've lived in. It's beautiful, well-kept, comfortable. It feels like my home. Good things: - The grounds are extremely well maintained. Workers are outside constantly trimming, sweeping, cleaning, painting, just so everything looks catalogue ready. - They take non-standard maintenance requests. I was frustrated by my door (I had to slam it for it to close) so I asked if they would look at it. They replaced the whole thing a day later. - The apartment finishes are very nice -- and you can request an upgrade. My oven door was cracked and ugly when I moved in, so I asked if they could replace it. They did, no cost. - The location! I frequently walk over to Starbucks, Gingerman, Zoe's Kitchen, the donut shop, CVS (a new addition), Cosmo's bar, etc etc. There are so many options you don't even have to drive a car to. It's SO nice (and reminds me of when I lived in Japan :)). - My apartment agent Molly (who works in the leasing office) was a dream. Really fun, easy to talk to, and honest. No --------! Bad things: - Roaches. Before you run screaming -- there is NOT an infestation. But there is plenty of greenery in this complex (part of what makes it so beautiful), which means there's bugs. Since moving in back in June, I've seen/killed three roaches in my apartment. They get in via the front door -- and they never make it too far before I'm on them. But still... I'm relatively phobic and it would have been nice to learn about this before I moved in. Pest control comes out every Friday and I request -- every single Friday -- that they spray my place down. I'm sure the problem would be worse without them. - Noise. The walls aren't thin, but the windows are, so whenever someone is outside partying, you can hear every thump of bass and every scream. People are still relatively courteous -- I've been woken up once (around 3am) by party people. - This ---- is old. What makes it so beautiful and charming is its age, but with age comes... Oldness. The ceilings are crooked. Some of the walls don't make sense and seem randomly out of place. The floors are squeaky. I personally don't mind this stuff (I grew up in a historic home in McKinney), but I know some luxury-seeking people will be turned off by it.
