Resident 2015 - 2018

3/13/2018

We have lived here for going on our third year, but only staying because we are still in the process of looking for a house and don't want to move until we find a house we are looking for. Below are my opinions on this place, hopefully it helps out. Over the past year or so the noise has gotten worse, and the walls are extremely thin. With the two newer restaurants on Oak Lawn and the building of the Virgin Hotel on Turtle Creek there is not a quite spot in the complex. We live on the side of the Restaurants and sometimes they will throw parties mid week where the music is so loud that you can be two rooms removed in the bathroom and taking a shower and you can still hear and name the song that is playing at over 100 yards away. With all the construction going on the city says you cannot do construction before 7AM on the weekdays, but they are always doing it before then. The city keeps giving you the run around, so if you live on the side by the hotel you are probably going to have to deal with this. I can sleep through this, but my better half has a terrible time sleeping here. If you have a dog, the dog park is one of the better in the area. You are also within walking distance of two city walking trails (Trinity Strand and Katy Trail) and you are close to many dog friendly restaurants and breweries. Most of the dog owners are amazing, but you will still have others who will not clean up after their dogs which is disappointing, but you get that everywhere. The one big beef I have is you are not supposed to have dogs bigger than 60 pounds and certain breeds, but neither one of those rules are enforced. All in all if you own a fur baby, if you can stand the noise, great place to live. There has been a bunch of crimes in the complex, but the management team has tried to help out to make it safer. They are starting to install a garage entrance by toll tag, but for some reason residents are complaining because they don't want to get a toll tag. The complex is at least making and effort, but the residents are not very helpful. They also said they installed cameras and have a security guard, but never heard of the cameras being helpful with the crimes or have seen a security guard at all. With that said I feel comfortable at the complex, I walk my dog around the complex all times of night and don't feel in harm. Overall the maintenance team is really quick on the day to day issues, but we have had some major issues with heating/cooling issues which were not handled properly. We understand that not everyone is an expert on everything, so if you do not know the answer, please don't make guesses on it to close the ticket. Please take time and call in someone who is an expert about it. But when you tell residents that something is broken and they are the reason for it when they had nothing to do for it, it is really upsetting. You pay too much money to be treated like that, it was kind of insulting. Besides those couple situations, everything else has been on point. There were many changes in the office staff since we moved in, but you expect that living in apartments. The newer staff didn't start off too well, but they have gotten in a grove over the past couple of months. Everyone is still not a fan of the cookie cutter answers they give on the community message board or email responses, but you get this from any complex you live in when living in the DFW area. All and all the office staff is pretty solid. The outside appearance is not the best, but not really their fault on most of this. The back side of the complex on Turtle Creek is torn up from the construction, but there is nothing they can do about it. The hallways are outside and with all the dust from the construction they are normally pretty dirty. This leads to your carpets and hardwoods being dirty as well. The staff does a good job of trying to keep up with it, but it is a no win battle for them. Sorry for the long review but wanted to give a detailed run down. If you are a dog person and you are okay with your place being noisy at times, this is one of the better places in the area. This is an older complex so do not expect everything to be perfect in your apartment. If you are okay with this and noise, it is nice place to live in general. No complex is perfect, but if you can deal with everything stated above, this is the place for you. If not you might want to move somewhere a little further north since most of downtown and uptown will be this way.

Camden Design District
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about our community. We understand the inconveniences that can come from the construction and nightlife that has transitioned into the neighborhood. We have worked with Wheelhouse on sending out communications to our community when they are having festivities, so we are able to notify our residents ahead of time of any events and what time they will be ending. While this system is not perfected, we hope to make these happenings as smooth as possible for our residents. Our location and amenities, including our dog park for our furry residents, are some of the best perks of our community. We too are looking forward to our new access system, along with the toll tag entry, and believe this will be a big improvement for our community. We appreciate you continuing to call Camden Design District your home and would like the opportunity to discuss your concerns with you. Please contact the office at 214.741.0777.
