Resident 2017 - 2018

7/23/2018

Copying my google review down below in case it helps with visibility. Our main gate to get into the parking garage is still broken after a month, as is one of the primary pedestrians entries/exits. Anyone can get in or out of the building regardless of whether they live here, and one of my neighbors just had his car broken into as a result, so all of my statements down below still apply. This is not a safe, clean, or comfortable place to call home. I regret renewing my lease at MODA. The fire alarms have gone off at least 9 times over the last month or so, with a number of those instances happening in the late hours of the evening and even one time at 1AM for about 3 hours. It's a huge inconvenience because no resident can predict whether they'll get a decent night's sleep, never mind the safety concerns since most residents don't even leave the building now when the alarms go off. I also work from home, so the fire alarms going off during the day are affecting my ability to work, too. The property was recently bought out by a new management company and while the new staff in the office seem nice, the issues have only escalated with the new mamagement company in place. Other problems/issues/challenges to be wary of: - There are 3 elevators in the building, and they are frequently all broken. I live on the 6th floor and while I don't mind taking the stairs every now and then, it's a tough feat with a broken tailbone right now. The accessibility issue is a HUGE concern for me. - Yesterday, we didn't have any hot water and today until about 230PM, we didn't have any water at all. Not a drip. This was in tandem with the fire alarms going off again for a long period of time this morning (after having gone off late last night for 30min) and the power being off, too. I woke up last night and this morning to the piercing sound of the alarm. Despite the alarms going off, no power, and no water, the leasing office refused to offer reimbursement for a hotel room for the day. - The building is dirty all the time. The carpet reeks of mildew and looks filthy, the halls smell like marijuana, the walls are dirty and splashed with wine/alcohol, the gym equipment always looks sprayed with dried sweat, and the coffee machine in the club room looks like it's never been cleaned (and it only works half the time anyway). - My unit was pretty dirty on my move-in date and only a couple of the issues I noted in my walk-through paperwork were ever addressed. This is both pre- and post-management change. - The doors and gates are frequently broken on a daily basis. They're either stuck open or stuck closed, both scenarios of which are major safety concerns. MODA advertises on its own website as being a "luxury" building with "lavish" upgrades. That's a joke. I'm sad to be stuck living here trapped in a lease, and generally just feel unsafe here basically all the time. (Did I mention my unit was broken into while I was home, and when I talked to the leasing office about it, their very initial response was not to apologize, empathize, or address the issues with how easily strangers can gain access to the building, which allowed the burglars to enter the building in the first place, but rather to blame me because I didn't have my deadbolts engaged?)
