Resident 2014 - 2015

4/27/2015

I love the location and neighborhood, the people that live in the complex are overwhelmingly very nice and quiet, the amenities and square footage you get for the money are decent for the area, yet I will not renew once my lease is up. Why? Power Properties. I've lived in Oak Cliff, Cityplace, Old East Dallas, and North Dallas, so I would say that I have a pretty fair idea of how a lot of rental management groups operate. Power Properties is one of the worst I've encountered. While you're a prospective renter, they seem very put together and charming. They will say all that right things to get you sign the lease, but once you sign they have absolutely no incentive to actually keep their word. For starters, the office staff will call you and not leave a message, so you'll call back and no one will know who it was that called you or why. Pretty unprofessional, to say the least. For the record, I did call the property manager and left a message about this issue and never heard back. The maintenance department is also horrible. I don't know if they're just clueless or downright incompetent, but nothing ever gets fixed, even with multiple calls and assurances that things will. Among them, I've had issues with the hardwood floors, the toilet handle, and a leak coming from the upstairs apartment. The leak did stop, but the damage that it caused to the ceiling in my laundry room was never fixed. The other two are still pending months after they were first reported to management. They do, of course, spend thousands of dollars making sure the outside is photo ready to woo potential residents (they must have redone the tile for the fountain in the little dog parks no less than three times), but they will not make the same investment to make the repairs needed inside of the units. Their favorite excuse is that the property manager changed, but that was in December and things are still not getting fixed. If you are still considering living here because of the location and other things, please make sure at the very least to get all the repairs needed done before you sign a lease or put down any deposit. That's really the only leverage you have as a renter.
