I was looking to move closer to my job, and did my usual online search for an apartment, and came across The Vibe Denton. At the time, the complex had a move-in special, with a move-in date for October 25th for a 2b, 1b unit for $975. I was told by ------------, Leasing Professional, that the unit was MOVE-IN READY and due to my urgency to move, I signed a lease online without looking at the available unit. All communication was done through their online portal and via, email + phone. After my move-in, the office requested that I fill out a Condition of Rental Property Checklist, in which I had 72 hours to fill out stating the condition of the unit. I included roaches, water damage and possible mold in the bathroom and, the feces/urine stained carpet in the 2nd bedroom that my daughter was to sleep in; the stench was nauseating. After speaking with ---------------- Community Manager, I sent an email with photos to show the horrible condition that the carpet was in along with photos showing possible mold in the bathroom due to water damage. I did request for the carpet to be replaced in the 2nd bedroom due to its condition. Under local law, the landlord is obligated to maintain the rental property and required to complete a rental property inspection before tenants move in and again when they move out. ---- did admit to me that she did not do an inspection or walk through of the unit before I moved in and denied that the previous owner had a pet while refusing to replace the carpet. Instead, hired a company to have it cleaned and in turn, made the stench rise even more. We continued back and forth via phone + email and in the end, resulted in an email with my NOTICE of TERMINATION RENTAL AGREEMENT with a move out date for the end of October and did so-the complex did deny my NOTICE of TERMINATION and sent a collection for $600. Be careful where you rent and always do a walk through before signing. If you're looking for poorly maintained, roaches, paper thin walls and dishonest management, move here.
