The apartments are cheaply constructed, and every repair is a patch job. Decent living conditions if that is all that's going on, but it's not. A roach infestation is getting worse over time. The maintenance staff show up on the wrong days and don't always speak English, and don't have all the information they need to repair without communication.
The worst part, though, is the management system. The phone is rarely answered by someone in the office; and now they reroute phone calls to a third-party group that can make appointments but have no helpful information. The current manager is has no customer service skills. When we tried to communicate with her to fix an eviction notice that was due to a mis-filing on the office's part, the manager barely looked us in the eye. She never apologized for the inconvenience of us being wrongfully evicted. We are still trying to resolve charges that we do not owe. The management company, MBP Capital, has never responded to e-mail communication, and does not have a phone number listed on their website, so it is extremely difficult to get anyone to help us.
The money you save with the rent may be worth it, but make sure you have your act together and you know your rights. Don't let them walk all over you.
