Rented an apartment at this location for a year and a half. Started with a 6 month lease then extended by 6 month increments. Upon giving notice after the 6 month was over and they were raising the rent, I have notice to move out. Apartment was on 2nd floor, stairs were separating from upper floor with missing or very loose bolt, rotted roof and falling down wood parts of structure. Left apartment immaculate and gave final walk thru. They had my contact information (phone and address of PO Box). Apparently, they say I owed them under $200. Insted of calling me and explaining and proving that I owed it, they sent this off to collections (National Credit Systems, Inc. - who is a crooked company and recorded the person "Yolanda Payton" fake name given by all operators). I immediately wrote a certified letter to fire the collection agency per Public Laws 95-109 and 99-361, also known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, telling them to CEASE and DESIST calling and attempting to collect. Sent certified letter to The Oaks apartment asking why they sent to collections versus calling me as they have my phone numbers as I have a few previous messages still on my phone from them. They are claiming a fee for cleaning yet the apartment was cleaned prior to vacating and the carpet was to be replaced due to a water heater that leaked while I was away on vacation. I suggest avoiding this location as the buildings are old, have poor insulation and VERY inefficient HVAC units that will cost you more money in your energy bill. If they mode of operation is to NOT call the person rather to send off to collections, should tell you quite a bit of what poor quality operation this is. I was awaiting their call back regarding the return of my deposit and apparently, they still want more. Pictures of rotted wood and hazardous stairs attached. Will file complaint with BBB as well as a possible small claims case if they continue with their actions. Letter from manager of apartment absolved me from giving the 60 days notice and even said understands less than 30 days. Email from manager stating that she was OK with that will hold in court as a release from the 30 or 60 day notice. Apartments were nice for the time I lived there and I doubted the complaints I saw on line about them. After this, I believe all of the complaints now. Save your money and look elsewhere!
