Resident ā€¢ 2013

12/9/2013

I have been residing here since February of 2013. I have the A Plan 1 Bedroom/1 Bath 600 plan. I can say I am very satisfied living here at Saint Gregory's Beach Apartments. The complex is very clean & maintained. Sure it is an older complex built in the early 1980's however it has ripe with age. I have had very little things go wrong and when they did maintenance did a good job rectifying any problems in a timely manner. My unit is very well painted. As you know with older apartments, you can easily tell it has vast layers of paint on the walls; the use of glossy paint tends to make it look very cheap too. My walls have a natural tan matte finish and do NOT look like it has globs and layers of paint on them. According to their information on the official site you can request your unit to be painted to a color of your liking for free. If I would have known that before I moved in I would have gotten my walls painted black. I do know of 1 unit that is painted black... lucky stiff. Anyways moving on... Sure the counters in the kitchen and in the bathroom have a fake marble look however a lot of complexes charge EXTRA, like $50 a month, just for having real marble; hence it is a savings. The carpeting is not anything special. Just a cheap standard carpet but does not look cheap to the eye and it serves its' purpose. I do know some units have wood floors as well has fire places. The closet in my unit is LARGE! It's perfect for clothing and storage. I do wish the living room or hallway did have an extra closet. To my knowledge, all the units here have a patio storage with washer/dyer connections for free; a lot of complexes charge EXTRA just for using them! I do not own a washer/dryer so it is another storage for me. My full size bicycle fits perfectly in it was well as huge boxes. Since I do not own a washer/dyer I head over to 1 of the 2 on site laundry mats here. Wait... only 2?! Well there is about 200 units at this complex so it is rather small. I have also noticed lots of tenants have their own washer/dryer. So having only 2 laundry mats here is quite adequate. It's only $1.25 per load to wash and $1.25 to dry and it is open from 7:30am to 10:00pm everyday. Every time I went to do laundry there was always (a) free machine(s). Gonna wait long for your laundry? There's also a bottle soda machine there if ya get thirsty. It takes roughly 35mins to wash and 45mins to dry. They also recently install ceiling fans w/ lights in the laundry mats. This is one thing you need to pay attention to: the laundry mats are super clean! There's no graffiti or trash at all! Then it hits you... this is not a ------ apartment complex! Walking around the gated complex, yes it's fully gated, you can see how well kept the complex is. Do the ------ test. Come here and look at the cars parked in the parking lots. Are they beat-up late model vehicles? Do they have tacky, over-sized chrome rims? Do they have their last name in Old English letters on the back glass? See many G-rides? "Goddess" ornaments on da hood of da car? The answer is... "no". There are 3 parking lots. The biggest one is the south lot and has the dumpsters at the east end, the 2nd lot, located in the middle of the complex, is a decent size; I have never found myself without a parking spot. Visitors can park anywhere without worrying about getting towed. Just do not be a dumb phuck and park on the lines or take up multiple spaces. That stupidity will result in a justifiable tow. The 3rd lot, which is the smallest, is for those who want to pay for parking. It is a little extra a month but you can always get a spot. Just beware of the red late model Saturn coupe w/ the Uhaul tow hitch. They seem to favor the southwest most spot since it is at the edge of the parking lot and they want to avoid getting dings on their car. You are more than welcome to pay for the pay parking and compete for that spot. In the mornings the maintenance team pick-up litter, change/fix outside lighting, clean the pool, and the laundry mats. There are no overgrown bushes, trees, or grass. Now, roaches exist in all human inhabited places all over the earth. I have only seen like 3 here... ever. However I am not some slob and I never leave leftovers out and I always throw away my trash properly. The only "pest" you need to worry about is in the summer is the Carolina Anole (those little green lizards). I see tons of them outside here. However I do not see them as a pest, they are harmless, and they are quite nice to look at. I personally know that the lead maintenance guy, Daniel, is a cool cat and is a professional. They only hire certified A/C cooling people here; trust me I know. I see lots of people complain on here that the maintenance do not do their jobs but I beg to differ. I often see maintenance take deliveries for appliances to replace broken ones. I do seem them often running around the complex so I do know they are up to something and not just sitting around. There is also trash valet on Sunday mornings plus I do not see people leaving trash bags 2 days early so that is nice. There is also doggy Scheibe bag for your dog's Scheibe. So use them. As far as crime goes, this is a pretty quiet complex. I do see security patrols at night from time to time. Only 1 break-in occurred in the year I have been living here. How do I know that? Well the complex left a letter on my door to read about what happened. This brings me to the office staff and community here. The staff here tries to make you feel like there's a strong family community here... and there is. Often they do after-school like activities, have contests for kids, little community parties. I'm anti-social so I do not attend those. As far as the office staff. So far I'm satisfied with them. I do agree with all of you that Shannon was a complete "Hundin" but she doesn't work there anymore. Amy was pretty nice however she is not there anymore. Right now there is a new staff member, I forget her name but I do remember she loves the Dragon Ball and Girls Bravo anime. She seems pretty cool but she is still rather new so I have no real opinion about her except for she is actually nice. The complex did have a nice weight machine in the gym however they remodeled and are focusing on cardio. There is a new multi weight machine however I was used to the old one and miss it. The cardio machines are not anything special but they are there to be used. Plus the gym room has Wifi and the communal room with cable TV. The pool is is small but nice. They do have a grill/cooking area, hot tub, and a sand beach volleyball court! All privately surrounded by beautiful bamboo. That whole area is gated off so without the key, kids cannot accidentally get in the pool area when the gates properly shut. I am a fan of Social Darwinism so if someone is dumb enough to get into water and cannot swim and something bad happens, I guess we do not need those genes in the gene pool. The residents... well I cannot comment much since I am anti-social. My Mandarin neighbors from across me were always arguing. I don't know much about the situation since I speak Japanese and not Mandarin but the cops have been here because of them. They do not live here anymore so they are not a problem. People are quiet here for the most part. I live close to the parking lot, the complex has no control when people come and go and they are playing ridiculously loud and pretentious deep bass awful "music" in their car. I noticed lots of kids from the bus coming home here but I never see lots of loud and rowdy kids playing outside so that s a plus. Finally the area: The area seems to be predominately -------- however I feel this complex has a good mix of everyone here. It is 1 block away from Highway 6 and just a little ways to West Little York. The complex is also next to a church community center with basketball courts and I never see thuggish people here. I see lots of kids there actually. Now one thing that might be an eye sore is that after the complex on Timber Creek Place Dr. there is a large presence of semi trucks parked out there. My guess lots of truckers live in the complexes but hey do not block anything since they park where there are only trees. (Check out the street view on Google Maps/Earth.) The complex is also not near the most alluring shops however Highway 6 has a lot of offer. Now the neighboring complexes seem ------/broaderling ------. Especially the one on the west side of Timber Creek Place Dr. (the one that is not gated). Do my ------ test mentioned above, it will not pass. Plus that complex might have way TOO many people living there since people park illegally along the street all the way around to the corner. Because of this it can be hard turning left off of Timber Creek Place Dr. because you cannot see the oncoming cars. They even park in front of a fire hydrant. If the complex or city did something to prohibit people parking from the fire hydrant all the way to the corner then making left turn would be so much easier. Finally disregard most of those negative reviews! If you can tell, you can see it is out of anger and personal; not an actually review of the complex. Just come here and see for yourself.
