Resident 2013 - 2014

3/22/2014

This apartment was my first apartment, and I think every other place I ever live will be fantastic in comparison. I am still currently living here. I am on the 7th month of my 11 month lease, and I am writing this review now to let you know how awful my experience has been. DO NOT RENT HERE! I am sure you can find another apartment in your price range that will be better kept and better managed. Look somewhere else. Trust me. Let me tell you all the ways I was disappointed by my time at Meridian Park: 1. When I was looking for apartments I was in a bit of a rush and on a very tight budget. When I looked at this apartment complex they showed me a model apartment, not the actual apartment I would be moving into. The model looked fantastic. The floor plan was very nice and spacious. The model did not have any of the wear and tear of the years and years of occupants who have beat up the apartment. Don't be fooled by touring this model. The only thing you see from it is the floor plan. They hide everything else. 2. The woman who showed me the model apartment was very friendly and knowledgable. She gave me a very good first impression. I have had similar experiences any time I have gone into the office. However, any time I have gone into the office I have met a new person. They constantly have new office employees, and every single one of them has always had to say, "I'm new. I haven't learned how to do this." It was fine the first couple of times, but I am sick of it now. 3. Here are some fun facts about the state of my apartment: When I first moved into my apartment it was quite gross. The carpet has all sorts of stains. The bathtubs have lots of hard water stains. The cabinets in the bathrooms and kitchen are disgusting. The walls were fine and there luckily were no weird smells. Our electricity bills are crazy high all the time because our apartment is so poorly insulated. There is a huge crack under the door, and our windows do not close completely. Currently, there is duck tape on the gaps in the windows to keep the dirt out. Also, it took us a couple of months to get the thermostat set in a way that kept the air conditioning from running constantly. When it gets below freezing outside we have to drip our sinks and keep the heater on a higher setting. (That might be common, but I thought I'd add it.) The hot water lasts less than 10 minutes in the shower. The hot water heater is only a half sized one. The stairs up to my apartment are terrifying, particularly in winter. I have fallen up and down them on several occasions. They are frost covered any time we get ice or snow. The parking is annoying. Most of the time I can park close enough to my apartment, but the other residents can be incredibly inconsiderate with their parking. I have pissed off my downstairs neighbors several times without trying to just because I have made too much noise jumping around my apartment. The kitchen is fine. I don't use it as often as I should. The washer and dryer hookups are nice. We have plenty of space, but I don't think that's consolation enough for all the trouble this apartment has caused me. 4. I have experienced an infuriating amount of repairs and updates I have had to bear through. (Note: We got a day's notice on these repairs, if we got a notice at all): a. When we first moved into our apartment our dishwasher did not work. It took us bugging the office for a month before someone finally came and fixed it. b. We have had two different visits from the bug-spraying people. These visits were within a month of each other. We have not had any bug problems, but we live on the second floor so I suspect those who live on the first floor have major bug problems. c. They updated the mail boxes about a month after we moved in, and this took at least two weeks. I don't exactly remember how long the update took, but it was quite a long time, and they look and function exactly the same. To add to this, my roommate got a new mailbox key, but I never got one. I was told I would be contacted when the new key was ready, and I never was. I was not pushy, but I shouldn't have to be. d. Also, a package that was sent to me as a birthday present disappeared, and I have no idea if it was a fault of the postal system or the apartment office, but we did try to track the package down with the postal system and they said it was delivered. e. They redid the roofs on all of the apartment buildings. This was quite an inconvenience when they were working on our building or the buildings next to ours. The sound was terrifyingly loud. When they worked on our roof, it shook the walls so violently that we had to take all of our wall decor down. The roofs were worked on every day of the week except Sunday. Our roof was repaired on a Saturday (the first Saturday I had actually been home in about a month, I might add) and they did not finish the roof that day. They came back and finished it on the following Monday. The machinery they had for this job took up a great deal of space in the parking lot, which is fairly full to begin with. It was an infuriating process. I am not going to live here long enough to find out how often they have to do roof repairs. f. We have had our water shut off a total of 5 times at this point. The first time the water was shut off there was a break of some sort that effected the plumbing in the entire complex. It took them a day and a half to get the water back on. There was another incident a couple of days after that. They got the water back on that same day. We were not notified of either of these, so I am assuming they were unforeseeable accidents. The next time the water was shut off we were notified of it the day before. The water was shut off at 8:30 am and was not turned back on until after 8 pm that evening. Two days later I woke up to no running water in my apartment. The water was not back on until the evening. I went home for my spring break for a few days, and I returned from my trip to no running water in my apartment. There was a notice on my door from the day before, so they did try to warn me. This was the last straw the made me determined to write this review. g. The most awful thing that has happened during my time in this apartment is hard for me to write about, but I need to tell people about it. There are a large number of stray cats that stay on the grounds of the apartment complex. My roommate and I had a couple of little kittens that were very thin that kept making appearances on our porch, so my roommate started feeding them. They were so sweet that we adopted them as our own. We let them roam outside and every evening they hung out on our porch, and we fed them and spent time with them. We gave them collars and got them fixed when they were old enough. My roommate found one of our cats dead behind the trash can without her head. Someone decapitated her and took her collar off and laid it by her body. We reported this to the office, and they called animal control. It took animal control 3 days to come pick up her body. These are the kind of people you risk encountering if you rent at this complex. Do you want to live next to a psychopath who kills innocent cats who have been claimed by someone in the complex? If you have read this far, I congratulate you. Hopefully this lengthy report has served its purpose in warning you about this apartment complex. I am so overwhelmingly displeased with my apartment experience at Meridian Park. I will repeat, DO NOT RENT HERE! Save yourself the trouble. If I have any dramatic move out stories I'll probably be writing another review.
