Resident 2019

12/17/2019

We moved to the Harvestree apartment in Aug 2018. We chose this place for two strong reasons. One, the location and second the warm and friendly nature of the property sales person Roxanne. Our stay was pleasant. These apartments are old but well-maintained. They are not energy efficient so our electricity bill was much higher. Maintenance was good. Property Manager, Sandy, was always very efficient. So far 4 Stars! Now, the 1 Star part of the story. We renewed our lease for 3 months so from annual contract, we moved to month to month. We mentioned it to the manager at the time of signing our lease that we are in process of building a house and that's why we will leave latest by the first week of November. Therefore lease was renewed until Nov 7th 2019. However, our mistake that we did not give that in writing. We have always lived on rent, 19 years to be exact. In NY, Houston, Dubai and Dallas. But this "move-out" experience was absolutely unique. This move-out cost us around $ 3,000 just because we forgot to give it in written that we are moving out on Nov 7th 2019. Our understanding was that since we have not renewed and lease, ending on Nov 7th, it is understood that we are leaving. This is how we did earlier and never had to go through this kind of situation. When we mentioned that to Sandy in writing, it was already Nov, so we missed the 30 day notice requirement. (For annual lease notice time is 60 days, for month to month 30 days. Just got it confirmed from the corporate office too) As a consequence we paid rent for the month of November and first week of December. We were not given any break for being a good customers, who always paid rent on time and had never any issues. Next we got the move-out statement. Out of the deposit money only half was returned. It was explained that we had to the pay the NTV fee though we paid for an extra month as a penalty. Overall, in this sense the move-out experience was really bad. I warn others that if you are renting with them be mindful of notice and be prepared for all these fees. We paid a heavy price for our negligence. Almost $3,000!!!
