Resident 2010 - 2015

7/17/2015

Ref: Landera Apartments; Trespassing; Home invasion; Missing items We want to inform you of the terrible experience we had at the Lardera Apartments, 13400 Blanco Road, where we lived in good standing for a period of four years and four months. We initiated the move to our new home at 9:00 AM on March 19th. We arrived at the new home early because we had so much work ahead of us and that afternoon we received a call from ADT letting us know that the alarm at the apartment had been activated and that it was the maintenance man. We immediately returned to the apartment which was about 30 minutes away. Upon reaching the apartment, The maintenance man said he was there to check the air conditioning which was odd since we had not submitted a work order. We assumed that he just wanted to see if the apartment was vacant which was also inappropriate being that we had given our move out date. In a previous conversation with The maintenance man, he stated that we were paid up until April 12, 2015 so our plan was to vacate the apartment before the end of the month of March. This would give us plenty of time to move our things and clean the apartment before submitting the keys and request a refund of a prorated rate for the 12 days in April. The following Monday the maintenance man called to tell us that we needed to open the apartment so that they could fix the walls and that it would be free of cost. To our surprise, when we reached the apartment to finish packing our belongings, there was a man painting the apartment with the music playing really loud. We still had several of our belongings and decorations there, some of which are very valuable. We told him that the management of the apartment complex must really have confidence and trust in you being that they have allowed you into our apartment filled with our valuables. We asked him if he was going to be held responsible for our things and he quickly grabbed his things and left. We must mention that he took down some decorations from one of the walls and damaged the items. We asked him why he took the decorations down and he said he needed to finish painting the apartment before the end of the month. The maintainence man said that they needed to get a new lease on the apartment by the 1st of the month in order to return the 12 days of prorated rent we had already paid. Another issue involved items in the refrigerator. I mentioned to the maintenance man that we needed to keep our things in the refrigerator until the evening of Thursday the 26th because our new refrigerator at the new location was going to be delivered that night. He took it upon himself and emptied the refrigerator in the apartment and put our things in another refrigerator in a store room. When we went to collect our things, we discovered that we were missing $800 worth of medications. We asked the maintenance guy about the medications and he said he didn't think they were of any value so he left it in the refrigerator in the apartment and that the cleaning ladies must have thrown it away. By Saturday March 28th, our apartment which we were still the legal occupants, had been rented out to someone else. This whole ordeal has been a great inconvenience, trying to pack our belongings with a painter who did not have our permission to work in our apartment, having someone empty our refrigerator without our consent, and on top of that to have someone dispose $800 worth of medication and in the end no one is held responsible. My husband spoke with the manager asking her who had authorized the workers to empty our refrigerator. She said that she was not aware of the situation. She informed us that she would inquire and would get back to us later. We contacted her again and she said that they were trying to do us a favor by emptying the refrigerator. A favor? We never asked for a favor! The only thing one can call this is a total gross invasion of privacy, gross negligence by the management, and a personal loss of personal medication. We are requesting justice here. First, we require that a full refund of $800 be made to cover the cost of the medication that was thrown away. Second, we request a full refund of the rent paid for the month of March including the deposit on the grounds of gross negligence by the management and the invasion of privacy. Lastly, we ask that someone be made responsible for this terrible sequence of events.
