Resident 2011 - 2013

8/20/2013

Hickory Hill had a couple good points. The good part was mostly the location and that they screened all residents very well. I didn't have much problems with neighbors, I became friends with some of them. The office wouldn't let anyone in unless they had great credentials and no criminal record of any kind. Those were the good points. I moved out over the summer mostly because of the following reasons. First, the place was soooo old, and it was obviously built with all cheapest building materials a long time ago. Imagine what the cheapest building materials, lowest skilled workmanship, and decades of time did to living conditions there. The flooring was uneven, the walls paper thin. Even all the fixtures were so far crooked, it made you wonder if the builders were intoxicated or something when they built it. Everything was uneven, or wrong. There were huge gaps where boards and things were supposed to come together, which huge roaches would crawl out of. There were weird things coming out of the water, and they had to turn it off all the time to work on plumbing problems, but they could never fix that. The air conditioners were very poorly maintained and I don't think it's a stretch to say that most of them probably should have been replaced a long time ago. The AC wouldn't cool all the time. They usually put bandaids on things, but acted like if you did any little thing they would charge you a lot. There was enough parking, but the water would get very high during a rain storm. I was always worried about a hurricane or even several days of rain happening. After just several hours of rain, you would see early stages of flash flooding. I drove around and it was only like that at our complex. The other streets wouldn't be nearly as effected. I'm sure we'd have been under water with a few days of heavy rain. The office people seemingly nice on first impression played politics and let you know soon after with a smile on their face they were the boss. They liked the power trip or something. This place had rules for rules. They'd type up newsletters every month reminding us to whisper especially outside and don't make a peep. I'm all for quietness, but it's silly what they expected. They'd seriously tell people to leave over something minor. Some of the rules they'd put on our doors in their newsletters seemed like barking from a dictator. Keep in mind, the place was old, cheaply built, falling apart in many respects, and they were busy sending these notes. I don't have time to talk about all of it, but those are some of the highlights. The place needed major renovations, yet the rent was fairly expensive especially considering the building conditions. To someone else, it might be a stepping stone, but if you ask me.... Hype. Save for something nicer, and better built so you can have peace of mind. Oh they were real obsessed with their ratings too, so expect a few stellar reviews on this place after this post. Don't be surprised if it's mostly from the managers in that little office!
