Resident 2010 - 2011

5/17/2011

First - the complex actually looks nice, the apartments themselves are not bad, but you can find better for $525 a month. My friend and I moved in. We had requested an upstairs apartment, but they moved us into one directly below a family of 4 or 5. The children were up at all hours. The rest of our neighbors liked to shout and get in fights at all hours as well. Cops and ambulances pretty much every night of the week. I personally was never robbed and some of the staff was nice, but there is a lot of crime around these apartments. One of the tenants robbed another apartment complex and he was tracked back to his place at Cambridge. During the Thanksgiving/Christmas season two cops showed up to warn us about security measures we should take to prevent a break in or robbery. Ridiculous. This is Tyler, Texas and right across from the University of Texas, you'd think people would have a little pride and sensibility. And if you decide you'd like to move out, there's no buy-out or lease break option. You have to find someone to take over your lease - not an easy thing to do by any means. Short of death or getting shipped out for active military service they have absolutely no concern for their renters - they have you locked into a contract and take your $525 a month to the bank. They won't help you find someone to take over the lease. I tried to reason with them because my roommate was getting into heavy drug use and I didn't want to be around it. They didn't care. There were also medical issues with my family and I needed to move back home to help with bills and house upkeep. Sorry. Find someone to take over your lease. Rent's due on the first. Have a nice day. I am still locked into a YEAR LONG lease (not 6 months. A YEAR) paying rent at a place I don't even stay. I moved out all of my belongings and took detailed photos of the cleaning and repairs my dad and I made to the apartment - things such as the closet door being off track, the laundry door being off track, the storage drawer under the oven being off track, the toilet needed to be repaired as well. I repaired those things myself because they were like that when I moved in. I guarantee when the lease finally runs out they're going to try and pin some kind of cleaning or maintenance fee on me and I won't be having any part of that. The head of maintenance was a nice guy, but I'd love to backhand the rest of the staff. It sucks, but it's a well-learned lesson for me. Pay attention to lease contracts and if people warn you about a place - LISTEN TO THEM.
