Resident 2011

12/2/2011

NOISE: Cambridge Court boasts thin ceilings and floors- if you live on the second floor, you hear the music/movies of the people below you, and all the walking and movement of the people above you. If you live on the south side, you'll be awakened at 6:00AM by the garbage truck emptying the dumpster for the Dental Clinic just south of the complex. SAFETY: My wife and I have encountered quite a few problems with the electronic locks-- and one problem that really bothered us was that we would get locked out of our apartment because of problems. My wife got locked out of the apartment at night, alone, and in 32 degree weather--that is a major safety concern for me. The lighting on the south side of the complex is almost worthless- the stairwells are lit, but the walkways are shady, with plenty of hedges for criminals to hide and spring out. I always walk my wife to the car in the morning and meet her in the parking lot to walk her in at night. It is important to note here that one of the managers promised to install a floodlight on the south walkway--but never did. Break-ins have been reported in the west underground parking lot- and some residents say that in 3 years, 5 cars have been broken in to. After speaking with Provo PD, this seems fairly common with underground lots in the neighborhood. MANAGEMENT: The student managers are nice people, and are happy to help you- when it's convenient for them. I've heard them complain countless times about how "stupid" some of the residents are. I'm hesitant to even approach them with problems, because they react by patronizing you for your concerns. They are very sweet- until you sign your contract. Management has, on a few occasions, forgotten special arrangements with regards to payments, and they have led to fines- even when we'd taken pains to work out an agreement. PARKING: Parking is awkward and difficult. The lines on the top lot are okay on the south side, but the lines on the north side appear to have been painted for horse and buggy, and navigation is terribly cramped- and even more frustrating when there isn't a spot available, and unless you're a veteran in this lot, you must perform a 15-point turn to escape. There is a lack of parking in the central courtyard or central underground, and often a shortage in the west underground parking. The western above-ground usually has a few spots- but this doesn't help those who live on the east side of the complex. If you don't want to deal with the parking problem, you can pay about $30 per month to get a "Reserved" space. OVERALL: By renting here, you are paying for the location. It is very close to BYU, and several fast food establishments. The apartments look nice, but lack functionality (for example, the bathroom has a fan that doesn't go anywhere- just a fan on the wall).
