Resident 2012 - 2013

1/24/2013

Okay so it's a fair enough place to live, but let me break it down for you. THE GOOD (a lot of them are double negatives) - It's only about $300 a month. Considering I have friends who live at way worse places for more than that, it's not bad at all. - It comes furnished. Our chairs broke and it's all chance as to whether or not you get a good couch, but it's not bad at all. The couches are all leather and the table is big. - Maintenance typically comes within a day or 2. - The apartment below us has hard wood floors which is exceptionally nice, but we (and everyone else I know) have some seriously nasty carpet that has been here for around 50 years. - rooms are nice and big - Service in the office is good. They're very understanding. - The ground are really nice and kept. Beautiful in the spring/summer. - Great wards/social scene, however there aren't constant parties or anything. You can definitely sleep soundly at night. - Good mix of UVU students and BYU students. - Close to shopping complexes - Lots of cupboards - big closets and a nice hall closet - in a safe area and the apartment complex itself is safe - Always a parking space (however, there's a but to this...) THE BAD - It's an exposed parking lot and sometimes you have to walk a ways to get to your complex. Being an exposed lot, you'd think they'd get a snow plow up in there, but alas, they don't. So be prepared to skate to your car. It can get pretty bad. - Wifi. I don't know what their deal is with the wifi. They keep coming up with all these "alternative solutions" to try and speed up browsing, but they never work. They really just need to shell out the money and increase their bandwidth instead of trying to find a cheaper wrap around. I can hardly get a 360p YouTube video to stream. It's extra annoying because you have to pay extra on top of rent for the wifi. - Small pantry (however, you can totally work around this) - The bedrooms only have 1, 6 drawer dresser and 1 desk despite being for 2 people - The mattresses are pretty bad and the beds squeak so bring a pad - They seem pretty cheap. Now, they keep rent within reason. Like I said - there are places that definitely rip you off more. But let's look at this. 6 people for 300 each. That means Raintree gets $1800 per apartment. Now my sister, she lives at the Village South of Campus. That's about $425 a month for 4 people. So, the Village cashes in $1700 a month per apartment. So, per apartment, we pay more than the Village South of Campus, yet they get all the amenities. Their apartment comes with a TV and stainless steel kitchens and wifi that actually works and in unit laundry. See what I'm saying? It just seems like Raintree is being pretty cheap if you look at it like that. Overall, there are definitely worst places to live. Far worse places. But there are also far better places to live, so I will be looking into those for next semester.
