Resident 2015

7/10/2015

I had a F/W contract for this past year and thought it would be an alright decision. My roommates were good people. The bishopric was good. That's about it for this complex. Internet- I could never stream anything above 144p between the hours of 2pm-2am. There were always issues with it and their solutions were ridiculous. We would respectfully ask why the internet was non-existent and letters would be sent saying wireless printers were the cause of the problem... Maybe having 300+ people on one router plus phones, gaming systems, tablets, etc was the actual problem but they would never admit that. They had a "blackout" party where they said they were going to fix the internet by shutting off all the power of all 4 buildings for 2 hours. They brought in pizza and made it a party. Unfortunately, no internet was fixed and no power for 2 hours in the evening when people are actually home and wanting to do things was a huge inconvenience. I frequently would go to the Tanner Building on BYU to stream any kind of show or to do homework since it was hopeless getting it done. My UVU roommates would come with and use the guest internet because it was 100x faster than glenwoods. Parking - Honestly, this is one of the biggest complaints I had. Only about 70% of the residents get parking passes. I, luckily, did. My roommates who did not had to find their own parking. That usually meant having to park in business lots behind the building at the risk of constantly getting towed. They tow precisely at midnight and have had a few circumstances where they booted early. Now, if you get a parking pass, you have to pay $5 a month. No big deal. The problem is that if you plan on parking between 8pm and 1am on any night, good luck getting a spot. I told them they should make the lower lot a guest lot so there's actually spots around the building for tenants because guests would park and stay for extended periods and then leave after visiting hours. My worst experience was actually for a BYU football game. I tried to park at 7pm on a Saturday night and the lot was completely full along with every other lot in a walkable area. I drove around Glenwood for 40 minutes looking for a spot. Not exactly worth the $5 to waste it in gas in one night looking for a spot. Utilities / Maintenence: If you fill out a request online, they will have somebody there fairly quickly. Whether that person has a kindergarten knowledge of tools or not, is a different story. We had a leaking toilet that I sent in 5 requests over a month to have fixed. Each time, a different person came, "adjusted" a few things and said we should be good. That lasted great until the next day, the entire bathroom was covered in water and rendered the bathroom unusable. This happened repeatedly even though we were calm and collected through the situation. The dishwasher was used once this last year and flooded the entire kitchen. We sent in a request, that never got fixed. Personally, I'm glad it didn't otherwise I'm pretty sure our apartment would have been underwater. The utility fee was crazy. I had a F/W contract for $275 a month but frequently paid over $330. For a 6 person, shared room apartment with non-existent internet and poor parking, I think it's a terrible deal. I have a condo with 3 private rooms and parking stalls for less than that now and I'd rather provide my own internet and still be cheaper.
