Mark Twain Apartments

Pros: Great space. Me and a friend lived in a 2-bed, 2-bath that cost $750/month (at the time, anyway), with 1100 square feet. Really great deal, despite the building being as old as it was. The laundromat caused few problems, and the location ain't bad. Close to I-15, anyway. The apartment I lived in, and I think was the same for most, had a brick wall on the entrance side, which looked really cool. As long as payments are on time, I never had any problems with late fees or them claiming not to have received my check. A gas station is in great walking distance and comes in handy more often then you'd think. Cons: Maintenance was usually efficient, but shortly after moving in the faucet handle on the bathtub broke off. When they fixed it, the problem happened again less than a week later. I just dealt with the tub having a dangly faucet the whole year I lived there. But that's the least of the problems. They're REALLY uptight on you if you smoke. Even though my friends and I always smoked outside the apartment, they would always get on our case about smell and butts lying around, even though we weren't the only smokers and always tried to remember to throw away our butts. The neighborhood is noisy during the day, a lot of kids running around being annoying. But management was the worst problem. This was my first place living in after moving out of my parents since graduating high school. So I was a little unfamiliar with the "30 Days Notice" rule that most apartments have before moving out. We assumed we were supposed to leave when the lease ended. So about 15 days before our lease ended, we told them we were moving and they nailed us with next month's rent. We practically begged with them, telling them we had our new living locations settled and couldn't possibly afford another month on top of it. But they wouldn't budge. Fortunately, we were barely able to get by and pay it, but it was still an awful experience. Overall, there's a lot better you can do, but if you have nowhere else to go, you aren't living at the worst possible location. I'd rate my experience a 2/5.
