To Mark Twain Apartments Notice to vacate effective 7.31.12 Complaints: May 2010, at move in: Nondisclosure of non-refundable pet deposit; failure to divulge significant material fact after having previously requested full disclosure of all monies/fees/deposits. Visited property twice before move in to review lease and addendums. Wasn t informed until move in day of material fact. When manager was notified by me that I was upset, I was informed by management that management is not aware of other properties that don t keep a portion of a pet deposit so residents should expect it. Unprofessional and deceptive practices. When asked to disclose all information, disclose it. November, 2010: Management informed me that a neighbor complained of cigarette smoke and that if future complaints are received then must smoke outside. Some people can smoke in apartments, some can t. October, 2011: $250 fine posted to entry door for too many temporary pets. A phone call or a knock on the door would have been more appropriate. It would have been no problem to return sick animals to shelter the following day, which is what occurred. Was informed by another resident (now a former resident) that the asst. mngr. allowed her to keep a cat without deposit and with the comment, Don t let the maintenance man see it. February, 2012: Called general manager to discuss refusal to pay $250 fine. Left message. Received three-day notice on door within hours of leaving message. Three-day notice later cancelled after talking with owner of company. March, 2012. Notice on entry door that apartment inspections will occur every month without further notice. No right to privacy, no right to be present for inspections. April, 2012 Asst. manager and maintenance man rang door bell to perform inspection. Upon reaching the entry door, I heard a key in the lock. They waited less than 20 seconds for me to answer the door. I wasn t dressed, yet management apparently believes that 20 seconds is long enough. Poorly managed and tremendous room for improvement. Will not recommend Mark Twain Apartments to anyone. Will inform instead that they seek housing elsewhere.
