Resident 2004 - 2006

10/1/2005

This is a great place to live and is reasonably priced for the area, especially with all utilities included. The maintenance staff have always been very courteous with my few requests. I feel safe coming home at night, and security walks the grounds daily. If I could, I would continue to live here.

The reason for my review is a concern with the upper management. When I moved in Sep 2004, I was told that my place was renovated, and started to pay the 'renovated' rates. However, I received a notice recently saying that I have 120 days to vacate for renovations. And, there is no room in this complex to move to, even though management (Dittmar Company) sent us 'special lease terms' if we wanted to move within the complex. It's frustrating to love a place and are told you're being kicked out for something you thought was already done.

I am currently looking at other Dittmar properties, but there are none in this area, which has been great for my needs.

(02/22/06) Update: Fortunately, another apartment opened up in the complex in time for me to move by the renovation date. I signed the new lease that started in the middle of January, so I thought that I might miss out on my moving allowance, as it specified paying rent on the old place through the 31st. But, they paid us, which was an unexpected niceness, as my experience with other rental companies they would have stuck like glue to the wording of the renovation announcement to avoid the pay out.

I am now in a more recently renovated apartment, and everything looks and works great. From the outside the buildings are brick and stocky, but the insides have always been clean, brightly-lit, and inviting.

The only two things that I have noticed that have been iterated among other reviewers, is that Edlandria does not supply parking passes for visitors to leave their cars past midnight, and that the rooms in some of the apartments are on the small side.

Remember to weigh the pros and cons of apartment buildings before signing a lease. Edlandria is definitely not on the top ten list for kid-friendly (no playing on grass, no pool, etc.), and it's about an hour or more commute for some of us that work in D.C. I would still recommend Edlandria to my friends and family, though.
