Resident 2007 - 2008

5/20/2008

When I leave, I will have lived here for a year and a half and am only leaving because I'm moving out of state. I think this building is great for people with needs like mine. It may not be a good fit for people that are looking for more luxury or convenience to Metro, but I don't think this reflects poorly on the complex or the management. NEIGHBORHOOD: As a single woman from a privileged background, I was nervous about the neighborhood moving in, but I've felt very safe here. I frequently come home late at night and I've never had a problem. The Del Ray neighborhood also has a lot to offer in terms of a community vibe, shops, restaurants, etc. You have to drive or bus to Metro. The Potomac Yard shopping center is super convenient. If I had the means to buy, this area would be my first choice. AMENITIES: There are no wine and cheese parties, pool, gym, dry cleaning, etc. What they do offer are two amenities that were great for me: two working, Internet-accessible computers w/ printers, and pet-sitting services. PESTS: I NEVER saw any, and the management seems to be good about preventive treatment. MAINTENANCE: I was always notified in advance in writing of any routine maintenance. The few requests I made were handled promptly and correctly. PARKING: One space per unit, spaces are hard to find late at night. But I've always been able to park across the street, and I've never had a problem with my car. The lots are well lit. MANAGEMENT: Friendly and helpful. They seemed to know who I was right away, which was nice. Never had any problems with them. PETS: They allow cats and maybe birds too. I don't think there is a pet deposit, and the pet rent is darn reasonable (maybe $25?) compared with other places I've lived. BUILDINGS: Extremely well-kept. One laundry room for each building, always immaculate and with machines in good repair. UNITS: Hey, they're old and they're not that pretty. But the layouts are efficient, they are in good repair, and I was very happy with my unit. Mine was renovated before I moved in. You hear your neighbors, but I don't think the walls are especially thin. CONCLUSION: Having lived in much fancier places that charge all sorts of fees for amenities I didn't use, as well a basement unit rented by a shady landlord, I was really in a position to appreciate what this place offers: a good deal (reasonable rent, utilities included) in a very competently managed complex. I would absolutely recommend this place.
