I LIKE IT SO FAIR!

I have only been living here for only a few months and I don't really have any complaints. I have heard alot of bad things about the management and the complex itself, but hey, you can't always get what you want and everything isn't perfect. The parking is fine, I love the work out room, and it's a pretty quiet neighborhood. I also love the huge walk in closet and my balcony. I have only heard one arguement but it's wasn't that big of a deal and it wasn't that long. I don't see that many people hanging outside and when I do it's like in the evening time. I guess people are just getting off of work having a little chit chat and the children are outside playing after they have gottin out of school. But buy the time it gets dark I don't see anybody outside. I feel pretty safe in the neighborhood and the people are pretty nice. I have never smelled a bad smell. The only thing that I don't agree with is when they say that they have 24 hour maitnance. I had a problem with the pipes in my bathroom making this loud noise… See More>

    safety and management problems

Nothing seem to work in this complex, first the management is very poor from the property manager down to maintainance crew, they don't fix anything here, second safety wise you cannot leave here without getting something stolen from you before your third month. Getting the office to ask maintainnance crew to fix a dead bulb takes a month or more even though you have paid your rent to them, crime in the complex is soo high you should consider not moving here if you have kids and mine their future. Section of the complex is known for drug sale to the Richmond hwy community and nothing is been done to it by the management, they are aware about what is going on there but just refuse to put lights to oversee the parking areas at least to stop their activities.

I just recentlymoved from here on feb 1 2007, I lived at this complex for 1.5 years and the management changed every 3 months. The maintence and managment staff are terrible!!
The apartment sizes are great but if you have a problem good luck on getting it fixed in a timely manner. I never even used the pool because they never opened it in the summer because they never hired a life guard.
wouldnt move here if i were you

I been living here going on my 7th month and I can't stand it. The maintenance men here are horrible and deserve to get fired. They dont fix anything and never come to do house duties. They just hired a new property manager and maintenance team and still havent caught up too anything. The neighborhood itself isnt so bad my problems come from the rental office. I can say i don't have roach problems but when I first moved in I had a major cricket problem which took them a month and a half to fix with a HUGE gap in my floor.. Also I have squirrels running throught my ceiling EVERYDAY and they tell me theres nothing they can do about it. So unless you want to live in the slums...i wouldnt move here if i were you!!

          Income Qualification

I'm in mist of looking for a one bedroom apartment in Mount Vernon area, and have liked what I saw online about this Apartment complex. But when I called, they told me about their unrealistic Income Qualifications for two people. And how they check your bank account every 6 months, to make sure you are not making too much money to live there. OMG

What in the world is wrong with this management? Tax credit? Who can afford to live there? People on welfare?

I'm glad I didn't waste my time with them. Bunch of BS!

The place is good but its going downhill...

I lived in Lafayette Apartments from Jan 2003 to March 2005. I was fortunate that we were the first to move into our newly renovated apartment. Tons of closet space, plus the kitchen and appliances were newly renovated. The pool area was great and the exercise rooms in the rental office were excellent. The location was very near Shoppers Food warehouse, Blockbuster, St Louis Parish, and about 12 minutes drive to my work. When we left, we got our deposit back, pro-rated to the time we occupied prior to our move.

During the two-plus years we lived there, the following were my observations:

1. Efficient and courteous staff (although I was told that the new set of staff are not nice)
2. Inability to lock the main entrance doors (50% of the time)
3. The lack of maintenance and the gradual deterioration of the grounds facilities, especially the playground equipment
4. The deteriorating quality of the residents

About Item 1 – We had no problems dealing with the staff during the course of our stay. But with the turnover, well one cannot simply help but put up with the changes. The good… See More>

They are looking to take advantage of anyone they can!

I have had numerous problems with these apartments. First off, the front doors of the buildings are supposed to be locked, however the locks were almost never working and the office did not seem to care. A neighbor of mine was fined $50 for putting some trash bags out on her balcony until she had a chance to take it out. The parking situation is a disaster. you get one extra parking pass for a guest, but if you have more then one guest, they will have to park on the street. Also, my car was towed without any warning when my inspecting was a few days overdue. The worst thing happened when I moved out. I gave more than the required notice in writting that I would not be renewing my lease, and even talked to somone in person at the rental office about getting my security deposit back (I was told they would contact me). About three weeks later I recived a summons saying that they were suing me for "Unlawful Detainment of Property" saying I had not paid February rent (which I had) and March rent (which was not… See More>

Run as fast as you can far far away!!!!!

I was told when I looked at this complex "How wonderful it is and how safe" I was promised that the Secuity doors were always working. That turned out to an untruth, in The less than a year that I have lived here the doors worked maybe a total of 2 months at the most. The rest of the time little 9 and 10 yrs children simpily yank hard on them and they pull them open. This does not leave you with a very safe feeling. I get buzzed at all hours of the day and night from strangers yelling for me to let them in. My neighbors are so loud that I hear them clearly when they scream and fight with each other and when they scream profanities at there children. All this is to much, I have voiced my concerns to the office many times but it falls on deaf ears. The office staff are rude and disrepectful to the tenants here and have the worst attitudes I have ever seen in my life. If they don't like to work with the public then they should find other employment. So I would strongly recommend that you seek elsewhere… See More>

I thought I was moving into a nice quiet neighborhood. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!! This place is the worst as far as the noise level. I have complained to management 4 times and not once has the problem been addressed. The management office is not the best and the propery manager, where did they get her!!!! All I want is a peaceful place for me and my children to lay our head at night and feel secure. As in other comments the door locks don't work. Someone leaves beer bottles under the stairwells and yes the hallways STINK!!!! The apartment sizes are roomy and I like the closet space, that is about all I can say nicely about these apartments. If i was you I would definetly LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!! Quick, hurry, keep on moving!!!!!!!!!

UNprofessional staff, spacious apartments &10 people to 1 bedroom

I returned recently to tour the property because I had heard about all the things that happened since I moved out in 2005. I was not surprised NOTHING had changed. The main security doors to the building do not lock (they are advertise that they lock), the hallways smell like poo, the staff is rude and unprofessional.
Do not get me wrong the rental office is beautiful but do not be fooled. The apartments are very spacious but the horrible staff and crazy tenants will make you wish you never moved there. When I moved in there was 1 property manager and her staff, then about 6-8 months later there was another property manager and new staff and when I went back to visit recently there was a whole new staff again and I believe another property manager, that should just make you think. When I walked in the rental office that day the maintenance man was bent over with his butt towards the door and his butt hanging out, yes I can say that is SOOOO professional. ------ to the 10 power

I have lived in Lafayette a solid year. I too could not wait for my year to be up. The leasing staff are beyond rude, people put there cigarettes out on my door. Kids kick the glass in on the front door. People have complained of mice in their units. Possoms hang out near the dumpsters which make it hard to throw trash away so it is just thrown close to the dumpster (looks horrible). Even though they are newly renovated it is still a crapy job. As long as they smack paint over it they seem to think it is a job well done. The cops are here all the time, and they are suppose to have cops that live here but that doesn't help the traffic that goes through some of the units. Many of my neighbors don't even want to stay the year. They are out with the quickness, and they wanted to raise my rent a ridiculous amount.

I have live in Lafayette apt. for almost a year now and I can't wait for my lease to be up. There are kids of all ages running outside, the people in the office are rude, and the security is awful. The neighbors smoke all day and stay on the pouch all times of the day. The apartments are nice inside though, they are a good size and have big closet. Just make sure they don't put you in a building with all the roches. Also there are police here every other day looking around for someone. If you can handle all the problems then move in but I know I can't.

                              GANG neighborhood

I wouldn't recommend moving here. This Alexandria apartment complex, like pretty much EVERY apartment complex along the Rte. 1 corridor from as far south as Woodbridge all the way up to Old Towne, is becoming 'gang territory'. How do I know all of this? I used to gang bang for almost a decade. Born and raised in Alexandria, Va. Next time you're running errands along Rte. 1, take a GOOD look at the types of individuals around you. Not every gangster is going to look like Hollywood portrays them. Especially the every growing Spanish culture gangsters. I know this all
too well because ANYWHERE I go I have to watch my back. This complex, Beacon Hill complex, Cherry Arms complex, Mt. Vernon complex, Meadow Woods complex, Sacremento complex. I know of these personally as I stay AWAY from those areas as a precaution in case any of the immigrant wanna-be gangsters read or recognize my tattoos. You all are better off moving farther south in Virginia. Though there is still gang activity in the south, it has yet to reach the potential that it has reached up north.

I have had many problems living in this complex. Gangs have moved into the area since I became a resident. You should be aware of this. Occassionally, a Fairfax County police officer might patrol the premises, however please park your vehicle by a light. It would be nice if you have a great alarm on your car. One that disarms your vehicle if hotwired. The 'club' and passive alarms don't work. The thieves are very advanced. The only things great about the apartments are the space and conveniences to schools, restaurants, metro, and stores.

There is barely any parking for visitors, my car has been broken into twice while I was living there and so have many other residents. The children play in the middle of the street and act as if you are in the wrong for driving on the street. If you want to bring a friend to go swimming with you at their pool, they have to bring a check or a money order to go swimming with you. What if you were bringing a child? I think the apartments are nice for the prices that they are going for but, I wouldn't recommend living here.

                                                Document everything

I rented from Lafayette Apartment only for a year, the apartment complex is nice. Some buildings are cleaner than others mostly because of children. Check and see if the main door to the building works, a couple doors never locked. Pick your building wisely. Parking has improved alot especially vistor parking. Lafayette Apartments is a nice place to live but document everything of importance especially who you talked to and when. The staff will sometimes lose things and not return phone calls. The staff has always been polite but sometimes you may have to stay on top of them to get things done.

                                                  Rental Office slightly incompetent

The apartments themselves are rather nice.
There's sometimes a problem with children of all ages running around.

The biggest complaint is with the rental office; though they try to be nice they are very dis-organized. The once lost my rental check, and I had to pay them an extra $300 in fees. If you call to have a questions answered no one knows the answer to it and will try to rush you off of the phone. Once you move out they don't bother to tell you anything about moving out procedures, or when you will receive your security deposit back. They really don't know but usually say its up to 45 days. They allow the residents to have grills both charcoal and gas. You will see residents on any night of the week cooking out on their balconies without regards for the safety of their neighbors and the rental office doesn't seem to mind.

In addition to the leasing consultant; they need a resident manager; someone who deals strictly with the customer service issues. Then outside of the neighborhood, Lafayette would be a decent place to live.
