Resident 2009 - 2011

2/1/2011

We lived in Randolph Towers for 1.5 years and won't recommend this place, especially if you have small kids. First, it is not safe - anyone can get in, and marijuana usage was being found in the building. Second, the residential manager and her staff were rude and unprofessional. Below was what had happened to us. Three or four months after we moved in, we started to receive constant complaints from our neighbor downstairs. The complaints were mostly about hearing children's footsteps, but also including my 2 year old daughter crying in the bath tub, and vacuuming floor in the afternoon. Except for this particular neighbor downstairs, we never got any complaints from any other neighbors including immediate neighbors on the same floor. But the building manage thought it was all our fault. On Thanksgiving Day 2010, my wife smelled pretty bad smoke from hallway outside our apartment and complained to the front desk. Front desk people reported that they had come up and didn't smell anything. A few days later, we and other tenants received a letter from Building Management saying that marijuana smoking was found during the holidays. The letter said if this activity was found again police would be called. Concerned of my children's health and upset with the previous response from front desk, my wife called the manager and asked her why she didn't report to police this time, and waited till next time. Her response was that if we found someone smoking marijuana, we could report ourselves. On Christmas Day 2010, we invited two families for a small holiday party. We used the community room worrying about possible complaint from downstairs . After the party, one family left earlier and the other family stayed a little longer in our apartment. While we were having dinner, a font desk guy knocked on our door. He said that he received complaints about children's footsteps from downstairs so he had to come up. He said that he didn't find anything wrong, we had nothing to worry about. However, a few days later, we received a letter saying that we violated the lease term. We were asked to move out in a week. I talked to the manager and she said that guy's showing up at our door was the evidence of violation. She also refused to check with other neighbors if we did make excessive noises. Although we were angry with her and didn't agree with her overall evaluation of this matter, we decided to move out to protect our children, and not giving our business to her. Luckily, there are plenty of apartments available in Ballston area. Very quickly, we found a much safer, newer place and paying similar rent. In this regard, I would thank this manager for pushing us out of Randolph Towers. Don't stay here if you want your kids to be happy and safe.
