Please read review in it's entirety. Living at The Citizen at Shirlington Village was by far the worst residence experience of my life (Nov '19 - Nov '20). Highly recommend you DO NOT RENT there. Here is the laundry list why: 1. UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF: from the moment we sought interest in living there we agreed to an apartment which wasn't the one available when we moved in. This caused us to move into another apartment in the community with a higher cost. Not only were we lied to then but we were lied to about other things like maintenance team fixing noise issues with the garbage compactor. More to follow in later paragraphs. Management, especially during COVID, was awful. The way they handled amenities showed their incompetence. 2. NOISE LEVEL: shortly after moving in we realized a loud noise coming from the garage area every 15-30 minutes of EVERY HOUR. We followed the noise and realized it was the garbage compactor. We brought this up to management who initially said there was no timer on the compactor and there was not much they could do. After complaining again, maintenance found that the compactor DID HAVE A TIMER which they could program to operate outside the mandated quite hours. Despite this "sudden discovery", the noise still remains to this day. Fire alarms, let's just say that if you're okay with constant fire alarms going off especially during a 9-5 workday you'll love it (probably not the case if you're working from home). Oh, there were also the fire alarms in the middle of the night. Those were the most fun. 3. CLEANLINESS/PESTS: This place was by far the dirtiest place I've lived in and I lived in NYC. It could've been easily assumed that mice and cockroaches paid rent based on how frequently they were around. The odor coming from the garbage chutes made the walk to our apartment almost unbearable. Other residents left stuff out on their balconies that attracted unwanted guests. Utterly disgusting living at The Citizen. I'll be reporting them to county for health violations. 4. AMENITIES: WHAT. A. WASTE. OF. MONEY. When the gyms reopened during COVID, the citizen staff could only open the gym during office hours inconveniencing those that also worked during those hours. Essentially you were paying for a gym that you couldn't use. The pool, other pools across arlington and Alexandria were able to open. The citizen could not because of pool certification issues. Just shows the incompetence of management. I'm fighting this in the arlington county courthouse to get my money back.
