Resident 2013 - 2016

3/9/2016

Terrible apartment. Dittmar has been constructing a building next door for almost the entire time I've lived here. The dirt and debris from the construction site is half an inch think on the one window in this apartment. The vertical blinds, from the time I moved in, never worked properly. No one could get them to work properly. In spite of the high rent, this building is very old, and management has done nothing to upgrade the inside of the apartments. There was a mini make-over of the public areas a couple of years back, but it did not improve the lobby and meeting rooms to any noticeable extent. The gym and recreation center have outdated equipment as well. Monthly parking is extremely expensive, and there are no storage lockers available to residents. You can pay up to $200 a month for a small storage space, but these are not climate controlled. Nor is the apartment. Unlike most rentals in the area, you cannot use the air conditioning on warm spring days, and you cannot turn on the heat in the fall when it gets chilly. The odor and back draft from the garbage chutes is intense. And there is frequently debris on the carpeting in the hallways. When I first came here, we had a wonderful manager, Eileen, who has sadly since left. The new manager is not responsive at all. You cannot even reach her by phone as she doesn't take resident calls. During the most recent holidays, we were informed that we were not permitted to decorate our apartment doors with Christmas wreaths. When you need maintenance, it's the front desk who decides whether or not the maintenance is needed, and when. Even though Dittmar has many buildings in the area, and maintains maintenance on call. The VA Square building was once nice, but has fallen into disrepair. They are trying to do everything on the cheap to compete in a crowded market with newer apartment buildings that have far better amenities. The carpets are cheap and they quickly start to show wear even if you don't wear shoes inside. However, the location is great. And VA Square was at one time a good place to live, and a good deal for North Arlington. This is no longer the case. Rent elsewhere. I intend to do so.
