Resident 2012

9/4/2012

As mentioned by previous reviewers, the location and proximity to metro are the primary reasons for considering this place. That said, you pay a premium for this, the monthly rent is outrageous for what you get... the fixtures/kitchen area is nice, but nothing special. Don't expect any sleek modern appliances, just the basic white fridge and stove. Also, carpets... why? There is tile in the kitchen, bathroom, and entryway, but awful white/cream carpet throughout the rest of the apartment. I don't know why Virginia Square ops for the cheap economy stuff, because for the price you should expect more. Parking is an additional $50 a month fee. Expect the rent to increase (it inevitably will) if you plan to stay past the original one year lease term. Now for the really bad part: the management of this complex is AWFUL - the property manager Eileen Legge (I will call her by name, because this review is well deserved) will feign concern and care to your face, but it is disingenuous and honestly sickening in her conduct. You have probably read some glowing reviews on here - you can thank Eileen for many of these - don't think that they are based in reality. She monitors these rating sites carefully, and even puts up notices in the building asking residents to log in and post "outstanding" ratings (she must not have enough time to write all of them herself). If you ever have an issue with one of the staff members, rest assured that the customer is not always right at Virginia Square. Eileen always sides with the employee particularly the grumpy and disgruntled daytime desk man to the point where she and he have berated residents in public because they dared to raise a question. He picks and chooses who he wants to be nice too (who knows what his criteria are) and treats other residents like dirt really makes your day to have to deal with these two in the morning. If you dare to raise any question or concern to Eileen, regardless of the face-to-face interaction you can expect a nasty written response berating you for daring to question building management. From a staff point, the only upside are the night desk personnel all of whom are very pleasant and genuinely nice to talk to and the maintenance staff, who are more than happy to help when you final manage to filter through Eileen s nonsense. Can t speak much for the other residents everyone seemed to keep to themselves for the most part some for apparently good reason. I m very happy we left before this went down: http://www.wusa9.com/news/article/218732/158/Possible-Meth-Lab-Found-Inside-Arlington-Apartment-. I suppose all of the above is a matter of personal taste - if location/metro access are your top priorities and you have money to burn, then perhaps it will work for you. However, if you prefer not to have to face either overly-animated fake platitudes or downright nastiness every time you go down to get the mail or to receive nasty-grams in response to any request for service from your $2k a month apartment building, look elsewhere.
