Resident 2016 - 2017

10/5/2017

Wasn't sure what to rate this apartment complex and was torn between a 2 and a 3. I'll start with the positives. Positives. 1. Location is great. Starbucks, Whole Foods, shopping, and restaurants are within walking distance. 2. The gym is pretty great, 3. Pool is good 4. Apartments are well appointed. Cons. 1. Most of what you get here is lip service from management no real action, no real follow up. 2. When things break, or need maintenance, such as parking gates or other seemingly easy items, it takes weeks if not months to fix. General maintenance and repair is not that difficult. 3. Reserved Parking is a joke. You pay for a spot, someone else uses it, you can't tow them out. The parking audit to correct this has been going on for over 6-months. Honestly it's not that hard to figure out who live's here, who doesn't and who pays for reserved spots. 4. Towing. From experience, The Julian has put a freeze on towing from the community. This has been in place for months because they don't know who is supposed to park where and who actually lives here. You can basically park where you want. They may re-institute towing and parking rules some day but now paying for reserved spots is just handing money over to hand money over. 5. Destruction of the Lobby and Gym. Apparently a sewage pipe burst in the building above the lobby/gym. The day when calls were made about sewage issues they were dismissed for hours. Repairs have taken months. Honestly a couple thousand square feet, at the most, was destroyed but, none the less, this was community space people use. Dry wall, new flooring and cleaning a space like that should not take months to repair especially if these areas are selling features for future residents. Speaks to how seriously they take action about issues in the community. 6. Noise. If you're looking for a quite apartment look for a bottom floor (its got a concrete floor and ceiling) or hope neighbors aren't home often. The build is stick build and noise insulation is terrible. You can and will hear neighbors use the bathroom, talk, walk, etc. They are apparently trying to put in floating floors but this won't fix all of the issues they have because of the materials the building is made of. 7. Building Security Cameras. They either don't work or the community owners/managers don't care to take action about incidents. They have camera's in most community areas yet they had no ability to help residents who complain about slamming weights in the gym late hours at night or early morning. Looking at video isn't that hard, nor is the discussion or ability to take action. While this issue doesn't bother me, it's just another issue to take notice of. 8. Spying on Residents. Yup you read it right. Staff members have placed wireless cameras in apartments to record residents. While this doesn't reflect everyone who works here or owns the community, how they handled the situation after speaks to lack of professionalism. Very little was shared with residents, we were give notices to contact the police if we wanted to know more outside of a very brief note. Additionally, while the community provided a "professional team to come look at your apartment" no equipment was used determine if hidden camera, signals, etc. were in individual apartments. They merely just looked in the corners of the room and left. I know this because I was home when they went through the home. I questioned how they would find a signal and the response was they " we wouldn't be able to". Honestly I expect someone will post a comment from management asking me to call and discuss. Reality is we've discussed this many times and they have claimed they have had similar discussions with other residents. If they don't comment oh well. Long story short of all of this. You can put lipstick on a pig but it will still be a pig. I would consider going else where if you respect your privacy, honesty, and money.
