South View Apartments
Resident · 2013 - 2014
South View is becoming one of the cheaper student apartments in Harrisonburg, so you get what you pay for. I like the location and the bus route availability, as well as the space available in the rooms. Having your own bathroom is really nice too! The outdoor areas are usually cleaned up fairly regularly by the maintenance staff during the week, but it usually only happens Mon-Fri. Maintenance is also very quick to respond to problems. Also, it has a nice clubhouse, basketball and volleyball courts, and a picnic area with a grill. Some things that could be better about South View is the parking. There is very limited visitor parking (which is next to impossible to get on the weekends), and sometimes I had to park in a different resident lot because the one in front of my apartment was full. I also had a bad time with electricity overages and noise on the first floor. With the cold winter and very little insulation, I was spending a lot extra on heating my apartment. Also, the neighbors upstairs were pretty noisy and could be heard stomping around all the time (though I know this is a college apartment and it's going to be noisy on the weekends). All in all, South View is a fine apartment complex if you know what you're paying for. You'll be near undergrad students who party a lot and will throw trash into the yard, but that is the case at almost any student apartment complex. I wouldn't recommend the first floor because of the noise and electricity overage issue, but otherwise it's a fine place to live.
