In general, I consider myself an informed consumer and will routinely spend weeks reviewing a company or product before making the "go/no-go decision. In 2019, I decided to sell my home and rent an apartment closer to work, mind you, this would be the first time I have ever rented an apartment so I had a lot of questions and concerns. After spending about six weeks reviewing apartments in the Dulles/Reston/Herndon area, I narrowed my decision down to four properties, which included Monroe Place Apartments. I dived down deeper into the comment sections of various third party sites like to read the reviews and compare the square footage and layout of the four properties' two bedroom apartments. I looked at the different photos uploaded by users and property management as well as an extensive array of Google-earth 3-d images. I even conducted Google-earth views of the drive I would take from each apartment to work. In looking at some of the reviews, I noted that several commenters had mentioned that a "Gigi" from Monroe Place had been a pleasure to work with. I decided to call Monroe Place to see if I could schedule a quick tour of the property. I was pleased to be informed that if I could make it to the property before their next scheduled tour arrived within 30 minutes, I could come by immediately. I immediately left work and headed to the property. Even though I had already virtually driven the route from my work to the property via Google Earth, I was pleasantly surprised that the 1.6 miles was a stress and traffic free drive, (at this time, I am 50% sure, I wanted to rent at Monroe Place). When pulling up to the property, I was pleasantly surprised by the "village community" which included a Harris Teeter and several other shops, deli's, nail salons and pub located on a cobble-stone lined street. The apartment property appeared upscale, clean, and quiet and oozed sophisticated living. "This is a place that I could call home", I remembered saying to myself. After entering the office, I met the nice affable "Gigi" everyone was talking about as well as Elisa her manager, who was equally affable and welcoming. After inquiring about a two-bedroom apartment, Gigi took me on a tour of one that was available. After reviewing the apartment, and coming from a large single family home, mind you, I was apprehensive after seeing the size of the apartment. Gigi proceeded to calm my fears and anxiety by visually describing how to set up various pieces of furniture in order to make the apartment a home. After the tour, we returned to the office where I ran into Elisa again. Elisa asked me if I liked the property and as I was non-committal at the time, she mentioned they there was another larger (gorgeous) apartment available. After walking through the door of this apartment, I immediately fell in love with it and started counting numbers in my head to see if it was within range of what I was preparing to pay, it was not. However, I returned to work, sat down, calmly ran the numbers, and within 10 minutes, I called Gigi and asked for a rental application. Here I am almost eight months later and I have no regrets on choosing Monroe Place. Everyone is friendly and engaging; every few weeks or so, a community event is held where food are beverages provided and prizes for various events awarded. All of the support staff are friendly and always helpful. The location of the property is central to numerous grocery stores, pharmacies and gyms. Reston town center is nearby and driving into D.C. from Herndon can be a short hop depending upon the time of day. The one issue I had was that my washer stopped working a couple of days before Christmas. Being that it was the holidays, there was a delay in replacing it. However, the management staff being the excellent stewards of customer service that they are, provided me a washer to use until mine was replaced. In closing, I am not sure how much weight my review will hold since this is my first rental experience, but I can say, I am extremely happy and satisfied with my choice. If you are looking for a nice community to rent in, I would highly suggest Monroe Place Apartments.
