I moved to Newport News ten years ago and one of the first places I looked at was Port Warwick. At the time, it was not feasible, but when my life changed, I was back to rent at Styron Square. When I visited, I met Sharon, who was very professional and compassionate. She showed me several options. I moved in several months later to a 2/2 facing the square. I love the location, love being able to sit on my balcony and listen to the summer concerts if I don't want to sit in the square. I love how secure the buildings are and James, the doorman is the best. My two dogs love him! I love the fact that we can paint our apartments to make them more personable. When I moved in, we had a wonderful maintenance man and housekeeper, but both of them left shortly after I moved in. Now for the things that could be better. 1. The leasing office staff are terrible; you leave messages for certain staff and you never get a call back. They sometimes are rude and act like they don't care. The saddest day was when Sharon left the leasing office to work somewhere else. That is when the professionalism and customer service went down the drain. 2. Maintenance and housekeeping is non-existent. I see James doing more housekeeping than the so-called housekeeping staff. 3. Recently we were notified that we would see a slight increase in our water bill. We received this notice the day we got our monthly rental notice. It would have been nice to receive the notice earlier, like when they know there was going to be an increase. besides the increase was not small it was huge: $60.00 for me! I was promised a statement showing my water usage by Amanda two weeks ago--still waiting. What to the tenants that are on fixed incomes do about this ridiculous increase???? 4. I submitted a maintenance request to have my garbage disposal fixed three months ago and it still has not been fixed, even though I have been promised by the office staff. It is not only annoying not to have a garbage disposal, but inconvenient, since I cannot wash dishes or run water in my sink since it leaks. I will probably sign another lease, but only for 6 months, as I will be leaving the area. 5. I had the same problem when my microwave broke; submitted several requests and kept getting promises to fix. 6.The portal is terrible, they put comments been fixed when they haven't been fixed. My advise is to look somewhere else, unless they change the management. They need to give Sharon a call, give her a raise and bring her back!
