I'm new to the Botetourt, so my viewpoint is from that perspective. So far, I've loved it. The building is kept in good repair, and is clean and secure. The cabinets in my apartment are very dated in appearance, but are otherwise in decent condition. Some of the bottoms of the cabinets are clean and painted, although in others, the wood isn't in great condition and is flaking inside. As this is an older building, and a renovated hotel, at that, there are structural quirks. My apartment has a small hump in the carpeted floor--one side of the room is a little higher than the other. The ceiling also has texture in some areas, and not in others, as if work was done to it at some point and no one bothered to re-apply the popcorn texture. Everything is a little worn around the edges with age, again, as expected. One of my biggest complaints, I think, is that the lighting inside the building walkways is dim and eerie, and lighting is mostly nonexistent on the outside, making things feel a bit unsafe. There were some maintenance problems that I identified when I first inspected the apartment, such as a faulty shower head, loose toilet seat, non-moving blinds, and a place where the windows needed repairing. So far, they've promised to fix all of this for me, and have been quite nice about it. The place has great character, and is in a great location. The views from the upper floors are wonderful, and the windows are beautiful and tall, letting in a lot of light. There are also plenty of electrical outlets, and, I think, ample closet space. In all, everything is aged, but solid, clean, and well-made. The whole place has a classy, hand-built feel. The pricing is also competitive, as well, so for what you pay, I think you get a lot. Update: The owner, Cavalier Land, has been both gracious and speedy in doing all of my requested maintenance. I've had a very good experience with them.
