An email I've already shared with management:
The number one main reason I chose this apartment complex was because I was assured by Raae the noise here would be pretty much non existent. I was told by her and a previous employee who showed me the apartment back in September (young male) that the walls and floors were very thick and there are virtually no noise complaints except for the occasional yelling in the hall. I asked twice specifically as noise is a major deal breaker. This has not been my experience so far. I moved in last Thursday but spend my first night on Saturday. I woke up Sunday morning to people yelling on the patio and it sounded as if they were right there in my apartment even thought they were far enough where I could not see them. I was awoken Tuesday am to my upstairs neighbor stomping around until 630 am, when they finally left. The neighborhood to my left (apartment 422) either plays the drums or has the bass on their tv extremely loud and since my apartment is so small and shares all living space on the same wall, the only place I can not hear it is in the bathroom. I work from home most of the time and it is very important that I have a quiet place to work with little distractions. These noises violate my lease agreement. If I had known the apartment would be so loud I would never have moved here.
I was also unhappy with the lack of space to unload my belongings during move in. I was told by Tammy that the best place for me to unload would be on Freemason where there are 2 unloading zones that are shared with the rest of the City of Norfolk. The other apartments I viewed under Druker and Falk all had designated unloading zones on their property. I was also not happy with the condition of my apartment when I moved in. There are a few things that need to be fixed, such a a leak under my bathroom sink and a broken hinge on the kitchen cabinet, which I have brought to management's attention. There were also hairs left from the previous tenant in the bathroom and on the floorboards of the apartment. I was under the assumption that the apartment would be cleaned professionally before I was to move in.
I also had to reach out and ask about a door code being set up so I can let guest into the building and I also still have no idea where my trash chute is. I would expect this information would be provided instead of me having to reach out.
I feel as though when I am dealing with the office, I felt as if I was being rushed And feel that maybe they are short staffed. However, they are always very friendly.
If the noise issue can be resolved, I will be a much happier tenant. The location is great,I feel as though management is friendly and wants to help but are maybe overwhelmed currently, the rent special made the rent a great deal for the area and I also loved the welcome bag! It was a thoughtful touch. However, if the noise issues can not be resolved, I would expect that my lease will need to be terminated as the noise violates my rights as a tenant.
